I have been working at Canon USA full-time

    Pros

When I first joined the company I loved working here, positive and encouraging management.

    Cons

Management is constantly changing in and out. Extremely too many supervisors, managers, directors etc. The higher level or even supervisor level management does not care for their employees only for their level and above. All of the women supv/mgrs are extremely catty and form alliances against the lower level. I have never worked for a company that allows this kind of behavior from their management staff, it's disgraceful. In addition most managers that I have witnessed as I pass are on their personal cell phones on facebook etc, or in meetings when they should be leading or paying attention to what is going on. I am honestly not sure what is the deal with management around here, but to me, none of them are managers,

    Advice to Management

act like a manager, stop being catty, work for your people, WITH them, not against.

I have been working at Canon USA full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits and perks are good. Company offers 401K, bonus at end of year, has an employee company store, nice people to work with.

    Cons

Promotions are rare, and raises are very low. There's little diversity in middle management and in upper management it's almost non-existent.

    Advice to Management

Promote from within for management positions and recognize the vast diversity in your workforce. It's demoralizing to see posted jobs go to people from outside the company.

    Pros

Great Products from top to bottom has been number one in their industry for years

    Cons

I worked for a direct sales channel selling mostly production print. Good products but service couldn't do their job because they couldn't get parts. Also the dealers could offer better service and cut our lowest price by 25% . way to much bureaucracy couldn't get anything done without 100 layers of approvals.

    Advice to Management

I think 75% of the employees are management with no authority.

I have been working at Canon USA full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Job stability. Multicultural working environment. Modern headquarters.

    Cons

Blatent favoritism to Japanese. I am an American Manager, sometimes Japanese staff are invited to "Japanese only" discussions and know future initiatives before I do. There is an impression some jobs are only open to Japanese expats.

    Advice to Management

If you want to keep good American Management, pay fairly and stop favoring Japanese expats. The favoritism is insulting.

    Pros

Slow paced if you prefer it.

    Cons

Lack of good projects. It is purely a research development facility where projects uses patches of free technology. They have too much Japanese influence which is literally dictatorship with too much focus on documentation and weird projects. No work from home policy. In a nut shell it is not a good career choice.

    Advice to Management

Allow casual dressing atleast on Fridays and have the courtesy for at least one or two annual company lunches. First company in USA who do not believe in Thanksgiving or even Christmas company provided meal. Very sad indeed

I worked at Canon USA full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

If you live in Long Island and want a 9-5 job, this company is for you. The company is pretty stable, although there have been rounds of layoffs in the past. The people I worked with were great, but your mileage may vary.

    Cons

Old fashioned, inflexible, stagnant environment; rigid, uncommunicative management structure; very little opportunity for growth or challenge; favoritism to Japanese employees and certain product divisions (the moneymakers)

    Advice to Management

Focus on innovation, not profits. Don't treat your employees like children.

I have been working at Canon USA full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Everything outside looks great once you leave the office.

    Cons

Non-technical managers, No work from home policy (wake up it started years ago in IT), formal dress code which is not even followed by managers (tucking in a T shirt in pants do not mean that it is formal), dependency on third party companies for projects is a big drain on resources and lastly too many developers and very few good or real projects.

    Advice to Management

Invest in realistic IT projects and not in prototypes that never see the light of the day. Managers need to be more technical(hands on in development) and not like those who just want to chat about the technology and then when actual team work is needed then they start hiring more people. Surprise to see that IT department do not believe in any company lunches all year along.
