I worked at Canon USA full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

One of the few large name-brand corporations with HQ located on Long Island.

    Cons

Little promotion from within the ranks, even less if you are female. Inertia is rewarded and there are numerous employees who have managed to remain employed for many years by staying under the radar. Once you are given a high profile assignment, it is likely a prelude to demotion or termination. Continuous culling of experienced employees from the ranks to reduce costs with little to no acknowledgement of their departure or the reduction in skill or product history, followed by hiring for the same function in other areas of the company. Demeaning focus on badging-in and out times, absolutely no flexible work in terms of hours or remote. The major decision-making and management of the company occurs after 9pm when Tokyo opens for business and is almost entirely orchestrated by the Japanese. Board of Directors is completely out of touch and have little to no impact on or understanding of what is actually happening in the company, or in the marketplace. Made dozens of constructive recommendations in my exit interview, none of which were ever circulated to my department management.

    Advice to Management

    Good luck. Your loss.

    Pros

Friendly co-workers. Work is not pressing everyday.

    Cons

No room to grow. Perception is to keep the high contributors at bay and do not promote.

    Advice to Management

    Stop the chaos.

    Pros

Smart people, talented individuals, quiet environment

    Cons

I witnessed mental instability in the form of desk pounding, yelling, the enraged squeezing a Costco Peanut Butter Pretzel jar, and the muttering of curse words regarding a project sponsor.

Some of the above information was higher up regarding such events and nothing was done.

Individuals here 15+ years will not get removed due to company culture.

If interviewing here, find out who the old timers are and know that younger Canon employees will not sell out the dirty laundry.

I have been working at Canon USA full-time

    Pros

Good environment, 9 to 5, great work life balance

    Cons

Difficulty to grow in some departments. Upper management mostly Japanese so communication can be hard

    Advice to Management

Promote more from within, people feel they are not appreciated because they are limited in how much they can grow over time

    Pros

Job security, if you can navigate the American/Japanese divide.
Solid benefits package typical of a large company.
Big company, you can always find kindred souls and support.

    Cons

Culture clash between Japanese and American style of work.
Language barrier between Americans and Japanese ex-pats.
Tension between American managers and their Japanese overseers creates tension and confusion for individual contributors.

    Advice to Management

Do a better job of educating the workforce of what it means to work for a Japanese company during the interview process. Better to be up front.

    Pros

35 hours a week, Monday through Friday. Very low risk of being fired. No layoffs, very close to home. Plenty of parking

    Cons

Small salary increases, long time between promotions. Lots of politics, must be in the building by 9 am. Stressful to commute too

    Advice to Management

If you say your employees are your most important asset than show it.

    Pros

7 working hours per day provides balance between work and life. Good location - many walking distance restaurants and things to do.

    Cons

It seems impossible to get a big raise no matter how great the review a person receives annually and semiannually.

    Pros

It's a stable company with decent benefits. The hours (outside of travel and a few events) are easy and don't fluctuate.

    Cons

Slow to promote with very little in the way of career paths. Traveling gets excessive at times. There is very little in the form of development and training as well.

    Advice to Management

Provide better opportunities to grow and get promotions for hard work or at least give a clear career path.
