I worked at Capgemini full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

They have a variety of clients and industries to work for, so you won't get bored if you don't like a particular project. They offer good benefits, vacation and 401K profit sharing. They do a good job of having quarterly connect events to allow you to network with other colleagues you wouldn't normally see.

    Cons

If you live in the DC area, then you will most likely have to travel to your client every week. The forced ranking system at the end of the year is not very fair if you are supporting a smaller project and don't have exposure to more of the upper management.

    Advice to Management

It is great when the senior management spends time visiting the various project sites to meet the lowly consultants and senior consultants in their town hall meetings.

"Government Solutions forgotten in the mix"

    Pros

    Collaborative atmosphere
    Government Solutions a growing area
    Pleasant, can do atmosphere
Opportunity to participate in centers of practice, centers of excellence
Work life balance emphasis supportive of workers with families, other demands in off hours.

    Cons

Government Solutions as part of Capgemini NA was kind of the "stepchild"
Due to Government requrements, systems of CGGS had to be kept separate from Capgemini NA, which meant there was not as much opportunity for knowledge sharing, or even software use as would have made job easier for me
Not understanding Capgemini levels and culture before coming on board was a disadvantage when negotiating position and understanding what was offered at other levels that might have afforded the opportunity to negotiate a better package
Not enough effort is spent to find places for people who are displaced from projects costs the company a lot of attrition of good workers.

    Advice to Management

Make the time to work with Capgemini GS more closely
Work on a better angle for collaboration between the two parts of the company, dismantle some of the wall between the two.
If there is an employee who is hired who is a good employee overall, but possibly could do better in another position, see if there is a way to help find a match, instead of allowing talent to walk out the door, or get cut from contracts without a place to go.
Have recruiting clarify roles for employees, and what that means for their packages when they extend offers or before the employee comes on, so that expecations are set at the proper level.

    Pros

Great people and colleagues; smart and down to earth

    Cons

    Poor performance management process
Very few projects to choose from

    Advice to Management

Figure out a way to reward and compensate the employees a little bit better

  4. "Great Company for those with the Right Skills"

    Pros

    - Employees are encouraged to take on extra responsibilities
    - Opportunities to grow in new areas of work
    - Ability to grow professionally within the organization

    Cons

    - Limited client work available can hurt even the best employees
    - Company is more focused on the bottom line than retaining top talent

    Advice to Management

For a company that sells the skills of its people, there should be a greater emphasis on nurturing and retaining talent.

"No help for career advancement, little support"

    Doesn't Recommend
    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Good co-workers, decent educational opportunities, and opportunity for advancement. All of the non-managers are willing to help each other out.

    Cons

My managers have had no regard for my well-being, and support the client in lieu of managing their employees. There has been no flexibility for work and benefits and pay are poor. Communication has been a disaster as well.

    Advice to Management

Managers should listen to employees and respond to their needs. Instead of just serving clients, they need to think long-term.

  6. "Ok place after college, but for real strategy consulting, go elsewhere."

    Pros

Capgemini is a great place to be if you're into IT consulting; there bread and butter is in systems integration.

Capgemini tends to draw a young and vibrant crowd.

As an entry level position out of college, it's a fun place to be - and it gives you an opportunity to travel.

    Cons

If you are looking for management / strategy consulting, you should probably look elsewhere. Although Capgemini offers this type of service in their consulting services group, most of the work here is not what you'd find at a strategy firm.

I enjoyed meeting lots of people at Capgemini but I was unimpressed by them for the most part.

    Advice to Management

Provide more varied projects and opportunities.

    Pros

The people and less travel than most consulting firms.

    Cons

Limited knowledge growth opportunity and inability to move into desired areas of work

    Advice to Management

Sell work that we have the resources for.
