    Pros

The company really invests in you. As a campus hire I was part of a three week on-boarding process that consisted of a first week of all things HR, team building exercises etc. The second week was focused on collaborating with clients with more team building and team-based projects. The final week was hosted on-site in a home office and consisted mostly of job training.

In the weeks and months after on-boarding was complete colleagues were assigned to projects and given new roles. Traveling different places and working with different companies.

    Cons

A surprise workforce reduction ended in me losing my job while being "on the bench" between projects.

    Advice to Management

Implement a more effective staff consultant training program on how to be effective "on the bench."

I worked at Capgemini (More than a year)

    Pros

People are willing to help each other; Friendly Atmosphere. I can't find any other pros.

It's a global outsourcing firm with work offshored to lower cost countries to improve project margins.

Be very careful when joining as an experienced consultant. They hire too many people for short term projects. Often, a key criteria is to hire local resources in client location. Once the project is over in about 5 months, it's very hard to find another project.

    Cons

    Too many; Operates like a bodyshop;

SAP implementation projects at Capgemini are short. (~4 to 5 months). Afterwards, finding a new project is difficult, since there aren't many SAP projects to begin with. As a result, many experienced SAP consultants either leave or are laid off within 1-2 years.

Additionally, majority of SAP functional and technical work is offshored, with onsite consultants mostly managing offshore activities. The onsite consultants who stick around usually only have PMO skills.

    Advice to Management

Build a practice for long term growth.

    Pros

Good place to grow your career. Has a wide range of clients and technology groups. Also keeps employees up to date on training in latest technologies.

    Cons

I do not see much cons. Except that there are too many layers and that can be streamlined.

I worked at Capgemini full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great Pay, will wear a lot of hats your first year. While these jobs may not be glamorous (think Project Management Office Work) you will learn a lot and grow rapidly.

    Cons

Almost no work life balance, always expected to be available, this can even include phone calls with the offshore team in India at 11:00pm at night. Older consultants treat young people with little to no respect. Roles can be poorly defined and staff are often overworked without hours being tracked (ghosting). This can cause the hardest workers to be ignored. It really is a place where who you know counts more than what you unfortunately.

    Advice to Management

Stop constantly re-organizing the company, and create a sustainable consistent business model. Most consultants past their first year don't know which business unit they are in, or what their title even is. Make it mandatory for senior managers to share Statements of work with lower tier consultants so they know what their scope of work is, and how many hours they should be billing.

I have been working at Capgemini (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Capgemini is an amazing place to enjoy a successful career. You are evaluated and Judged based on your performance, regardless of level. You are truly promoted based on contributions, not longevity We are a flat organization, if you need desire to speak to Sr. Leadership they WILL take your call or respond to your email, not endless red tape and bureaucracy. The technology and ability to add to my skill set has been amazing. it isn't all implementations, we have strategy, assessments, true consulting!! I have exposure to the latest technologies, Cloud, llot, we are encouraged to cross train, in fact, training will be done internally, prior to outside hiring. We have an outstanding support staff, however they don't get in the way. There are 180,000 employees here, with all the financial backing, somehow the culture feels like a boutique firm. A great place to be rewarded for your contributions and recognized as the valuable asset we are!

    Cons

it can be taken as a Pro or Con - significant travel is involved.
