I have been working at Capita full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Opportunities, support and encouragement to seek promotion and take on more responsibility. Flexibility (although dependent on role and business needs) to move location or work at home if you need to. Encouragement to love what you do, if you're not happy with what you are currently doing then there is flexibility to move teams, apply for other roles internally or change your job role slightly to suit you. Open discussions with management about concerns and steps taken to resolve. Can opt into training days if they are relevant to your post.
Great atmosphere, sociable office, employees engaged, approachable management.
Brilliant graduate scheme, although very competitive.
Clear set objectives - personal and team each month.

    Cons

Because of the size of the company it may not be the same experience across the board but I think in general a great business to work for.

I have been working at Capita full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of separate businesses to transfer to.

    Cons

Company managed by accountants and every employee is a number on a spreadsheet, and easily expendable. As soon as any business smells trouble staffing is cut even when valuable skill sets are lost.
Low salaries are the norm, way below market rates. Capita plays at employee welfare and likes to portray a positive image which is false.

    Advice to Management

Pay the going rate for staff, genuinely look after them, nurture them and arrest the high churn rates.

I have been working at Capita full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Money available for people prepared to demonstrate that they are indispensable. Big and complex projects provide room to grow as a technical professional as there will always be problems to solve if you put your mind to it. Don't expect any recognition for this however.

    Cons

Teams are divided by an impenetrable wall of managers. All the business' clerical functions such as payroll are disorganised, pitifully slow and poorly communicated. Roles and responsibilities are poorly-defined and warnings about lack of direction are ignored.

    Advice to Management

Find out how things are supposed to work, or fix them when they don't, and convey this to employees. Recognise technical ability as well as social climbing. Take some care to figure out what an employee is supposed to be doing and who is meant to support them before parachuting them into a role.

    Pros

Good Opportunity to work on big clients.
Opportunity to work with some very talented people.
    Trainings
    Always keep you on Toes.

    Cons

Too much Politics and clash of personalities.
    Employees are treated as numbers.
    No Benefits at lower level.
    Less Salaries.
    Poor employee retention.
Complicated structure, its always very difficult to contact someone with in the company. Specially IT support. Everything is divided in business units and needs lot of signoffs for little thing. Which actually slows down the things.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees as an asset and try to retain good people. Ship is sinking

I have been working at Capita as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

They did pay well and on time. Overtime was paid time and a half, though it was mandatory and absolutely not needed.

    Cons

Everyone was a contract worker, and there was an implicit culture of unhealthy competition between employees: any colleague's success was one's failure. Officially, we had a very horizontal structure. But, in reality, some people were other people's bosses and that was made very clear: the man above me always refused to delegate anything and tried to do his job as well as the job of the three people he was supposed to supervise. He said no to any suggestion, even minor ones that would have clearly improved our product and wouldn't have cost him any time or effort. Any attempt I took to bring it up with our team leader led to the team leader to refer me back to that same person who was ignoring me.

We were encouraged not to help the other teams and to say we were overworked, but we weren't, as there was no delegation and all the junior staff had basically nothing to do. There were many other problems. A coworker was suspicious when I tried to help him: there was no trust at all between colleagues. In the end, they tried to fire me for breaking a piece of software. When I pointed out that I had fixed it, not broken it, they decided to fire me for not caring enough about the project instead. I wasn't very sad to go.

    Advice to Management

That part of Capita was very, very broken when I worked there. I'm not sure what could be done to fix it.
