I have been working at Capita full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I joined CEB in Capita as a junior application developer via the graduate scheme.

    - The initial pay was low, but the grad developer scheme does have regular reviews and in a year and a half my salary had increased by over 6k.
    - Life/work balance is great, you are basically never asked to stay late and never called back in out of hours
    - Relaxed environment
    - People are great to work with, no problems with anyone, everyone helpful
    - Training scheme is good, with a dedicated programme a group of new joiners go through to introduce you to the language (OpenEdge) and databases
    - Relatively secure, the pensions software we develop is doing well
    - Great first development job

    Cons

    - Relatively low salaries for developers, competitors will offer higher than Capita can match, but they may expect more for their money
    - Pay increases/promotions can take ages to go through, which somewhat takes away from the experience
    - Not many employee benefits, even Christmas meal was self paid for last year
    - Not many overtime opportunities, but then again no pressure to have to work later and when you do need to you do get paid overtime hours
    - Salary increases after you finish the graduate scheme go to once a year pay reviews and room to advance narrows
    - Relatively obscure programming language, OpenEdge

    Advice to Management

Sort out long approval times, things go through at local level quite fast then sit awaiting approval for ages. On one occasion for nearly 4 months.

I have been working at Capita (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunities for development in such a large organisation, they trust me to take responsibility and to contribute ideas and work autonomously. Very flexible working as I am home based

    Cons

Salaries are on the low side

    Advice to Management

Focus on repositioning salary in line with the market rates to prevent loss of great and valuable staff
