I have been working at Capital Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Pays well
    Good work life balance

    Cons

Promotional opportunities are hard and take long
Performance evaluations can be simplified further
Projects have a lot of governance

    Advice to Management

    Simplify project governance process
    Keep associate evaluations simple.
eg: "Do you need this associate in your team?" Y/N If Y, great! If N, work on transitioning associate to more appropriate role in another team.

I have been working at Capital Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The benefits and pay are fairly competitive for the industry, and the retirement contribution by the business is impressive.

    Cons

Large amounts of inconsistencies among management and frequent changes in supervisors. Increases in job duties and responsibilities not accompanied by raises and are merely considered factors in annual reviews.

    Advice to Management

Ensure that all managers are using the same set of standards and are utilizing a uniform set of expectations.

I worked at Capital Group as a contractor (More than 5 years)

    Pros

For a financial client, its a nice place to work. Not much stress as other financial clients. Pays is average and good California weather

    Cons

Nothing I can think of if you are not that ambitious. Pay is according to the work load.

    Advice to Management

Not much I can give advice to. good place to work for middle management

    Cons

Politics play a bigger role in who does well. Form over substance.

I have been working at Capital Group full-time

    Pros

    Excellent compensation
Smart people wanting to do the right thing
    Very little political friction

    Cons

Lack of clear accountability where decisions are diffused between too many meetings.
Significant discrepancy between the C-level view and the view from the trenches.
Performance rating seems tribal where biking with the boss has equal value to your competencies.

    Advice to Management

Foster a community of trust instead of a community of fear

    Pros

    Vacation/Sick time is decent.
They truly try to focus on the "associate experience".
    The jobs are not hard.

    Cons

    Leadership is lacking.
The "associate experience" tends to come at the expense of the business need.
With a strong lack of solid leadership associates deal with frustrations about how things are handled in the company. There are better processes but some of the leadership is unwilling or just don't care to listen to their associates.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your people. Truly try to understand their jobs. Pay people for the work they do. Promote GOOD QUALIFIED people to fitting jobs.

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Capital Group as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Excellent pay
    Beautiful office space
    Up-to-date technology
Lots of free drinks and snacks
    Eight-hour workday

    Cons

    Very little training provided
Lack of detailed instructions in projects
    Over-collaboration
Projects have too many channels to go through
    Contractors are second-class citizens

    Advice to Management

Provide a lot more training to all the systems and procedures used. I've had one training session in my six months there and half the time I still have no idea what I'm doing. Let new people sit with seasoned employees for several projects before just throwing them into the mix with broad instructions. Cut down on the number of projects given so people can learn the entire process from start to finish and not be overwhelmed.
Let contractors in on company meetings. Come on, I'm working for your company. I should know what the heck is going on.

I worked at Capital Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Benefits were good not great
    - Coffee stations and the kitchen was impressively stocked
    - Respectful management

    Cons

    - You get 3.5 weeks off but work an extra 2.5 hours overtime every week which adds up to 3.5 weeks overtime per year. That is not mentioned in the interview process
    - The overtime is then factored into your base pay to make it look like you make more
    - Base pay is average, they lure you in with the benefits but they aren't that great. I don't know if most people haven't worked for fortune 500 companies but the benefits are similar to so many other decent companies around and some companies especially Scandinavian based companies have amazing benefits
    - A lot of people are burned out from doing the same tedious job for 8-10 years
    - No room for upward mobility
    - Stratified and completely elitist as all hell
    - Some indoctrination that is completely unnecessary, for example, meeting weekly with your boss to discuss the most tedious things ever. As well as discussing the culture of capital as if it's a religion and elevating senior executives of the company to an almost rock star admiration - totally weird
    - They try to sell you how lucky you are to be there, it's completely weird, if you're a great company, you don't have to sell it to me

    Advice to Management

    - None, they know exactly what they are doing and are fine with the outcomes, nothing I say can change that, it's a purely capitalistic establishment of dog eat dog
    - If you stay at Capital, like most people do and are stuck in the same job for 7-10 years; meanwhile, upper management is getting promotions and bonuses; you need the advice: Leave, run and don't look back! :)
