I have been working at Capital One full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    - Extremely analytical and intelligent work force
    - Competitive pay and benefits
    - Extremely competitive.

    Cons

    - Frequent restructuring, leading to elimination of roles. However, there is time to find a position internally and the severance package is quite generous.
    - Performance management cycle is dysfunctional
    - Senior Leadership has little vision beyond a couple quarters. Hence the frequent workforce restructuring.

    Advice to Management

    - Fix the Performance Management process. In an effort to meet forced distribution goals, associates are aligned to ratings well ahead of the calibration or before peer reviews can be gathered. Once that alignment to distribution goals has been met, it's extremely difficult to move associates up on the rating scale.

I have been working at Capital One full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Corporate Values, Work/Life Balance, visibility in the market, competitive pay and awesome opportunity to make incentive, positive culture and atmosphere

    Cons

Overall everything is great, but company is catching up to some other banks around technology. VERY confident we will catch up and be better in the near future

    Advice to Management

Positive encouragement and continue to remind your people how much you value them. Try not to micro-manage too much with spreadsheets and conference calls, but around results and engagement (customer and team). Capital one hires the best and most talented, so let us continue to shine, by doing what we do best.

I have been working at Capital One full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

in the onboarding orientation, the company spent almost the entire day going over company history, core values, and culture. Seems to me this company really believes in it.

    Cons

    Typical large organization, lack creativity.

I worked at Capital One as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

I got a job as a teller here with less than one year of work experience.
    Pay is decent
Managment is generally pretty flexible and doesn't get on your case.

    Cons

The company is changing alot and this may cause some uncertainty in the next year. There doesn't seem to be as much of a family feel as there is with other financial companies.

    Pros

good benefits, good pay for the market.
good people if you fin d the right team

    Cons

can't advance without brow-nosing (really this is 2012 this shouldn't happen)

notice how all the people that give good reviews work in the corporate world of CapitalOne which is all roses compare to branches.

need to know the right people to advance very big turn off

    Advice to Management

look at the overall picture when promoting a person, don't write someone up just because they didn't meet one thing from your stupid quotas. and they are stupid sorry.
