    Pros

I am very satisfied with the benefits of the company - matching 401K, discounted stock purchase, and more vacation and personal days than I have ever been able to take in one year!
Management also encourages working remotely, another perk.
I am also very satisfied with the salary AND bonus structure.
The other associates are very helpful, friendly and great to work with.
Capital One has plenty of growth opportunities within the organization. It's up to you where you want to take your career! Although I have held the same position for several years now, I feel confident that I could find another position within the company.

    Cons

There really aren't any downsides to working at Capital One.

    Advice to Management

    Don't micro manage!

    Pros

    - Never boring - room for ideas - a chance to make ideas happen - not so organized...
    - Great work life balance (flexibility in work hours, on site gym and showrss, can skip to take kids to a doctor without feeling guilty).

    Cons

Overall its slowing down. Not the same opptys we used to have. Its not really clear how becoming a bank with branches will change the soul of the company

    Advice to Management

Focus on growth. Fix capital one's customer exprience

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

I worked as a contractor, so my experiences are from that perspective. I found everyone I worked with to be pleasant and reasonable. It is a very collaborative environment based on team work. I found it refreshing to be working within a group of intelligent professionals.

    Cons

There is an incredible amount of Capital One acronyms. Learning the 'language' is a challenge, especially for contractors. Employees go through training classes to bring them up to speed, but as a contractor you're on your own. Because it is a collaborative environment, it is the land of cubbies and open work areas; so if you need your own space you might not be happy.

    Advice to Management

    None.

    Pros

Good working environment that challenges you both from an intellectual point of view as well as personal development. Some up or out mentality that is left over from the number of consultants that they hired in the past. Fairly strong leadership that cares about their associates and hence developed some very nice severance packages. Attempting to develop some stronger leadership from within, but there is a tendency to look at IQ versus EQ.

    Cons

Too much focus and time on performance management. Easy to get a reputation...difficult to break it. Saw performance reviews that repeated the same development opportunity year over year. Difficult environment to get promoted in given the current and continuing reduction in workforce. Environment can produce an elitist attitude.

    Advice to Management

Look beyond 12 months and move towards a customer centric view point. Too many associates really don't know the typical customers, and tend to hide behind their analytical models that they think provide all the answers.

    Pros

Great pay, relative to a lot of other employers - bonuses are individually based not company performance based - I always got a bonus there. Excellent work life balance - its really your choice whether you want to work a lot and advance more quickly or have a balance and progress more steadily. A highly analytical place, not for someone who repulses numbers.

    Cons

Its gotten very big and it makes things frustratingly slow to get done. With a lot of growth and change there have been some areas of downsizing, but who hasn't seen that in this environment.

    Advice to Management

    Maintain focus.

    Pros

Smart, talented associates who want to do the right thing for the company. Can do atmosphere. Development is important and the company offers lots of resources to help (there are huge advantages to working for a company that makes a lot of money!).

    Cons

Organization, objectives and strategies always changing. Increasingly top-down management mode.

    Advice to Management

Empower associates more and benefit from improved performance.

    Pros

The work/life balance is very fair. Overall, the level of talent is extremely high and makes for an enjoyable work place.

    Cons

There are too many chiefs. The abudance of smart people can cause overthinking simple decisions.

    Advice to Management

Believe in the company's original (credit card based) core values.

    Pros

    Very fair practices
    Great Leaders - Executive Management
    Best pay and benefits package
Work life balance - work remotely, time off, family care off,

    Cons

    Very, very competitive work environment.
It becomes " dog eat dog" world during yearly performance appraisal period. Company lets certain bottom %(~5-10%) leave every year.
Of course it in not politics free.

    Advice to Management

Still have some middle management cultural issues ( trained these kids wrong ;-) ). Especially if they have connections up they can be ruthless in actions and can shuu-away great employees.

    Pros

Capital One has allowed me the opportunity to work a very flexible schedule. I have not missed one event for my child or family. I do need to work longer hours at tmes to accomodate this, but it is worth it to me to take time with my family. The people at Capital One are great to work with. It is a very collaborative environment where people want to help one another and it is just one of many reason Capital One is the successful company it is today.

    Cons

Compared to other employers, there are limited downsides to working at Capital One. One downside now is that the entire Financial Industry is not ideal to work in, but Capital One is leading their peers in terms of weathering the storm. There are times when you work a lot of hours, but the flexibility that is offered and provided equals that out. There is a competitive environment at Capital One, but in a good way. Everyone is always striving to be the best and be on the A Team. It's still very team oriented and the competitiveness is not intended to be a negative thing, but for those that are not into that environment, this may not be the place for them.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing to lead us through this tough economy!
