I have been working at Capital One full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A Very good culture of innovation and learning opportunity with challenging projects.

    Cons

Mid-tier management needs to be more tech savvy if the company wants to become tech innovator. Some of the agile roles are overkill like that of the scrum masters.

    Advice to Management

Be more tech savvy and provide leadership in that space.

I have been working at Capital One full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very flexible work life balance and great amenities at most locations. Very smart and creative people across the company as well. The best work life balance I've had between having the ability to work from home when needed is the best plus.

    Cons

Highly competitive performance management structure over the years has created associates, that if they've been with company for a long time, can be bad teammates to have. If you're viewed as a "threat" to their success (sometimes just you being there makes you a threat in their perspective), they can be standoffish, undermine you behind your back or not include you.
More diversity is needed on a lot of teams. Though not a problem just at Capital One, or intentional, the company's desire to become a tech company is unfortunately resulting in A LOT of only young and only white teams. This is especially true with African Americans and Hispanics.

    Advice to Management

Keep it up on the work life balance side. That's an awesome part of the culture that should be more accepted enterprise wide than just in pockets.
Keep thinking about performance management's impact on collaboration and team dynamics that gets in the way of great people getting great things done.
Really pay attention to diversity and inclusion and ALL of the groups that have troubles with representation instead of just focusing on what's available (Women and LGBTQ are great examples here) to effectively share their perspectives across the company. If it needs to start at recruiting, then tackle that first. An awkward example would be not having executives from a race/gender available to lead a network of those associates at the company. We need those diverse perspectives to reflect a diverse customer base.

I worked at Capital One full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fantastic benefits. Great Insurance, Abundant paid time off, able to buy a extra week of vacation. Free coffee, gym available.

    Cons

Department was ran by Manager who made the final decision of who got promoted. If she didn't like you, you were not invited to her vip meetings, or got promoted out of the department. There was a lot of unfairness within the dept. Due to the nature of the business, at times you had to stay late until the work was completed.

    Advice to Management

Be fair to all employees with time off the phones. Not just choose your favorites.

I have been working at Capital One full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Great people. Intellectually sharp. Focused on the job. 90% are nice people
    - Mature processes depending on the LOB
    - Opportunities to use the latest tools

    Cons

    - Getting promoted is highly dependent on making the right people like you and doing something that is impressive (sometimes for the primary purpose of doing something impressive)

    Advice to Management

Get rid of cross-calls. It comes up in every associate feedback and the response is always that management isn't communicating properly. Everyone understands what it is and what it does. Other corporations have gotten rid of it. It's holding CapitalOne back

I worked at Capital One part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Worked as a part-time teller while going to college and they were very flexible with the hours. Most people that I worked with enjoyed working there.

    Cons

The company provided monetary incentives for referrals, but in most cases, the goals were unrealistic.
