I have been working at Capital One as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Workplace is great and so are the colleagues. Great deal of variety in work and independence

    Cons

Far from London. Not much else to complain about other than the location

    Advice to Management

Keep doing a great job it has helped me a lot to improve over the internship

I worked at Capital One full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Clear mission based business. Customer focussed. Senior leaders give regular updates on how the business is doing.
Nice office with restaurant, free tea, coffee and hot chocolate, pool table, gym, music room, etc.

    Cons

Employee performance reviews are done by ranking all employees of the same pay grade. As a result, colleagues are very unhelpful towards each other as they consider them as competition.

    High staff turnover.

Whilst from the outside it looks like a very flat organisation, with VP’s and Directors sitting in an open plan office with everyone else, people are very status oriented and regularly say “X is a Principle Associate” or “Y is only a Coordinator. He shouldn’t be talking to someone of our level like that”.

    Pros

Nice working environment and some good technical guys there. some interesting projects.

    Cons

there is most certainly a core clique of people who create a campaign of propaganda and most certainly do not like honest opinions. If you speak your mind regards project deliverables, strategy or staff members who are clearly playing a game then prepare to have your card marked and be rounded on by the stasi "This is the cap One way" police. Long time serving staff at Cap One have been slowly brainwashed by the Capital one ethics. The one upmanship approach is encouraged, staff are passive aggressively managed out of the business if the face or opinion does not fit. Many very talented people joining from external organisations rarely stick around as they see and experience the wrath of this unhealthy culture. On the outside it looks like fun and enjoyable but underneath there is a very protective and somewhat nieve group of people who only care about how good you can make them look. Very divisive and intrinsic.

    Advice to Management

your culture will damage your long term growth and effectiveness in the financial market.

I have been working at Capital One full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits. Great atmosphere. Lots of social events. Work can be very interesting at times.

    Cons

Very cliquey. There is an in crowd. Propaganda can feel like North Korea sometimes. 'Playing the game' is a well used phrase.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to who is actually doing what, not just the game players.

I have been working at Capital One full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great place to work, brilliant staff, You can't help but get involved. Working at CapitalOne is a very fulfilling experience, from the minute you start at the company you are engulfed into the companies culture, which is work hard, but play harder. The company aims for a great work life balance. They provide alternative working and meeting areas to help you think outside of the box and look at was of solving issues from your normal perspective

    Cons

No Computer training before you go on there system.
    long hours
not much of a chance to change hours, overtime paid at normal rate, paid late, threats from managment if you dont hit your targets, bullying environment, show everyone on site how bad your doing, not helpful, threaten to take your bonus off you if you dont hit targets that involve the managers bonus

    Advice to Management

less bureaucracy, less working hours, more development opportunity

I worked at Capital One full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Big company, Indoor gym and restaurant. I met some good colleagues but to be honest the gym and the food there was the two things I was looking forward to

    Cons

Lack of training and be prepared to be paid late and not always the correct amount. The amount of work given made me automatically feel like I have to be paid more because of the complexity of the work. However for complexity, peanuts are given but hopefully things will improve for the next generation of employees.

    Advice to Management

Do not bring in new staff and not provide them with proper training and leave them in limbo only to then say "we think that this job is not for you". I enjoyed knowing that I was going to be employed here but after I realised I was not getting the proper training and was lacking behind everybody else I had to come to the same conclusion as management, that it was not for me. I can only speak about my experience but also think that for the work people do, they should get paid more and fairly.

    Insider culture

    Advice to Management

Communicate better together before rolling out your own plans -- Lots of times you hear conflicting things from different leaders .
