I worked at Capstone Turbine full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good salaries and benefits, good employees to work with from other departments, casual work environment, flex time, and cross-trained, employee parking, free coffee or tea.

    Cons

Favoritism with management. If they don't like you, you will suffer. People are promoted or hired through favoritism, not experience. Unethical practices of those in management or upper management who will discuss employee issues with others. If employees complain about issues with boss, don't expect resolution in your favor. Employees are treated poorly without consequence. Unethical relationships between employees occurs which affects work environment and morale. If your job and rapport with management is positive, it may change through new boss. Expect to work during most major holidays.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to employees complaint without punishing employees for commenting or complaining. Stop hiring based on favoritism but on people who understand how to communicate effectively with employees, and have managing skills. Pay attention to how employees are treated by their direct boss.

I worked at Capstone Turbine full-time

    Pros

High professional potential, committed labor force, good salaries

    Cons

No defined vision, objectives and goals. Every day is a new fire to fight. Procurement doesn't have a clue of how to handle business with suppliers. Middle management can't address crisis on a effective way, no lessons learned, management of resources is rocket science in this company, most of the time manufacturing lines are down and labor hours are just wasted.

    Advice to Management

Look over the manufacturing business on a daily basis and will find millions of dollars to convert to profit.

    Pros

You get stock and their shares are traded on the NASDAQ.

    Cons

They sell their product at a negative margin.

    Advice to Management

Create new incentives for your sales people that encourages them to think about margins instead of sales.

"Executive Level Incompetence, No Oversight for Costs"

    Pros

The people below the executive levels are amazing, hardworking and talented. They really care about the company and want it to be successful. You are well compensated, but you pay for it in other ways.

    Cons

The gross incompetence of the executive team, with one or two exceptions. Engineers are given far too much power to make changes to product with no second thoughts about cost. People who bring up basic questions about cost are bullied or laid off. I do think the CEO cares about the success of the company, and he works very hard, but he is too involved in market and financial matters to see how people on his executive team are actually the ones destroying the business, particularly incompetent engineering and the directionless engineering leadership.

The last months I was there, all the PhDs in the company left....and now you have people in engineering positions that do not even have degrees or related experience to justify their position, because they are friends with an executive. Cannot even read drawings or perform basic math, yet are allowed to make changes to our product. Rampant, destructive favoritism. The environment is far too political and destructive, I witnessed so many talented people get pushed out or leave.

Anyone wishing to grow in their careers should look elsewhere, this place, although promising at one point, is being destroyed by poor leadership, and the CEO cannot, or chooses not, see it.

    Advice to Management

Manage costs, make the tough choices and purge the business of those who are destroying it, incompetent engineering, or proceed to watch this great company die a slow and painful death.

I have been working at Capstone Turbine full-time

    Pros

Company has a very liberal attendance, vacation, sick policy. Some very bright and nice employees

    Cons

Senior Management is oblivious to the manufacturing process. The company has lost revenue 20 straight years and there is no light at the end of the tunnel. Very little communication between departments leading to significant waste and no oversight

    Advice to Management

Declare bankruptcy, realign the company and start over

    Pros

The product innovation we make. Family oriented coworkers. Very high exciting job description.

    Cons

Lack of Account payable support. Not able to provide an answer to a supplier as when will they be getting paid. Forecast bookings are just forecast bookings; not firm orders.

    Advice to Management

    Firm linear bookings. Fix BOMS

I worked at Capstone Turbine (Less than a year)

    Pros

First to market with compact microturbine technology that generates power clean and efficiently. Product fits within multiple renewable energy applications. Working environment is fast passed and allows for staff to have ownership and accountability for their work.

    Cons

A lot of reorganizations and changes to focus/ direction which can be positive, but make it difficult to understand what the future corporate growth will result in.

I worked at Capstone Turbine full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good product which is environmentally friendly. Smart co workers and decent work environment.
The product is truly hi tech.

    Cons

Most of the management is incompetent.
Senior management is the worst. I met a past employee (2000) who said that they were bad even 16 years ago and several were replaced with equally incompetent people.

    Advice to Management

Screen prospective managers thoroughly - use an outside service, since current hiring managers got into Capstone because fo their BS and they, in turn, fall for the applicants BS.
You need knowledgeable people doing the interviews.
