I worked at CarMax full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Culture, Engagement, Team Building -amazing opportunity for those beginning their career wanting to get their foot into the door of the corporate world - a significant amount of opportunity to learn and self develop if ambitious enough

    Cons

Culture based on department, lack of management based on department, Sr. Management have different views of development, lack of opportunity for growth (appears there is a significant amount at time of hire, however once employed you realize fairly quickly that it takes a significant amount of time (7-10 years) to move into a position in which your skills, the job responsibility and work load reflect your compensation. The company is big on making lateral moves with no pay increase for an increase in responsibility. No work/life balance, company will tell you as an exempt employee you have unlimited vacation - but frowned upon when use - not closed on holidays for positions that pay well.

I worked at CarMax full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I got to keep my job through when the economy was not doing great back in 2008.

    Cons

They say they promote within, but senior management will only promote you if you kiss their butt or if you are sleeping with them. The associates get away with everything and HR will not fire anyone that needs to be fired.

    Advice to Management

If someone threatens a Supervisor they need to be fired. Promote people that are hard workers and are vested in the company vs people that come in from the outside. Listen to your supervisors and not just the associates. The supervisors at CAF are the most unhappy group of employees you have working there.

I worked at CarMax full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

So I worked at CAF (Carmax Auto Finance) for a few years. I started off in customer service. Customer service wasn't too bad.. Training was ok.. About 4-6 weeks (paid) and you have the potential to get bonuses once you're on the phone (up to $600 a month) I was part time but wanted to go full time without the crazy rotating schedule so I moved to admin (Flex schedule Monday - Friday 8ish to 5ish). On paper it looks good but the pay is low.. About $12 / hr.. Management is very childish and clique-ish. Don't trust anyone.. Only way to move up is to be a favorite. Go else where the money here isn't worth dealing with the incompetent people.. Especially if you have a degree go somewhere else.

    Cons

    Pay (about $12 an hour)
    Management is fake
THE WILL TALK ABOUT ANY AND EVERYONE
You WILL gain weight because all they do is being food.
They have quarterly meetings in which they discuss company earnings but dont offer to pay employees more.

    Advice to Management

Go obtain a high school diploma and learn how to write a proper e-mail.
Pay more and the turnover rate wouldn't be half bad.

I have been working at CarMax (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very laid back environment. Very casual dress, good culture, managers care about associates. Good training program for fresh out of school, starting salary with bonus not bad. Great work life balance, rarely work over 40 hours a week, if you do, it is only by 2-4 hours. They do not contact you once you are off work.

    Cons

Have to work nights and weekends, systems in place back from when Carmax Auto Finance was a small company, not a Fortune 250. Manager salaries are not great, Department manager and above could be good, but team manger is not great, some associates make more with their monthly incentive structure. Good starting for college, but limited growth in terms of salary and promotion. Only so many Department manager positions and unless they leave, no openings. They have a thing called MAP you have to pass, system is not set up well, about 50% of people do not pass and have to take a position ad paycut or leave the company.

    Advice to Management

Change the MAP process, pay the managers more than the associates if you want to attract top talent as you say, look at if it is necessary to have people here on weekends or if machine messages can handle it.

    Pros

Good hours. Training is good. Have to say more in this app but not much more good to say. Oh yeah, they will feed you.

    Cons

They extra petty. High school atmosphere. Eat junk, sit down all day, tied to desk, no positive recognition. Managers must have unhappy homes bc they are disrespectful for no reason

    Advice to Management

Act your age and your title. Not in high school anymore.

    Pros

Nice Company culture. Lots of other job changing opportunities. Auto Discount! Starting to have more remote work at home options.

    Cons

Part-time has no health benefits. Pay is kinda low for such a large corporation. Lots of lateral move opportunities, but not a lot of promotion options. Must work weekends!
