I have been working at CarMax full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

CarMax really takes care of its associates. They are all about development and promoting from with-in. Great benefits!!! Everything you could ever want. From medical, dental, vision to anEAP program that includes grants for associates in need of financial help.

    Cons

A lot is expected of you. You are expected to do your job and do it well. For some, little supervision is ideal, but some associates need to be watched more so there everyone is doing the same amount of work, as opposed to someone having to pick up the slack.

I have been working at CarMax full-time

    Pros

It's a very relaxed and friendly environment. One of the kindest places I've ever worked.

    Cons

Since the folks are so nice, many stay here a very long time. Much of the IT team have been at the company for 15+ years and haven't had the training to keep their knowledge/skills current. There is a definite skills gap with newer technologies.

    Advice to Management

Invest in training staff that have been at company for 10+ years (this includes senior management).

I have been working at CarMax full-time

    Pros

Been working here for almost 4 years now. Was pretty cool at first, bonuses throughout the year, lots of paid time off, cookouts for shop hitting numbers. It all slowly fades away. One minute you're doing awesome as a store the next they're telling you there will be no bonus but won't tell you why. Pay is pretty decent.

    Cons

Place is laid back but if you're a true Autobody technician this isn't the place for you. Its hourly not flat rate so you will be working on cars other people have worked on also. Not too bad if you don't mind people whining and blaming others for their mistakes. Management will tell you the half truth and will act like they know nothing if you question further. Had lots of paid time off at first now you have to earn it. They are always changing things so don't get too comfortable with the way things are when you first start.

    Advice to Management

Managers should be hourly just like associates. Maybe that way they'll care more about the work we do and not just the numbers that get put out. If we don't get something we are promised the managers will still get theres, therefore making them care less about the workers. Bad for business.
