I have been working at CarMax full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

CarMax really takes care of its associates. They are all about development and promoting from with-in. Great benefits!!! Everything you could ever want. From medical, dental, vision to anEAP program that includes grants for associates in need of financial help.

    Cons

A lot is expected of you. You are expected to do your job and do it well. For some, little supervision is ideal, but some associates need to be watched more so there everyone is doing the same amount of work, as opposed to someone having to pick up the slack.

I worked at CarMax full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Met some great people while working there.

    Cons

High turnover in certain departments (inventory and service) due to poor management. Often, the only way to advance is to relocate.

    Advice to Management

Encourage the positive in your employees, rather than hyper focusing on the negative. Be consistent in your implementation of rules and your treatment of employees. That may help you retain employees for longer periods of time.

    Pros

There are alot of great people here. Training is fun and you are allowed to have your phone on the work floor.

    Cons

Benefits and pay are not the best. The company as a whole is not on the same page. Employees dont get the recognition they deserve. Also the hours make is almost impossible to maintain a home and social life.

I worked at CarMax full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

If you are seeking tuition reimbursement, and can keep that in mind, you might be able to stand the militaristic strictly regulated dictatorial company culture. If you enjoy purchasing crappy, Made in China, navy blue poorly designed clothes that you're forced to wear, you may fit right into their cookie cutter regimens. If you have no imagination and enjoy following the same strict procedures day after day, while constantly being observed, you'll enjoy endless boring days at CarMax.

    Cons

Management that obviously never even read a comic book on effective management.

    Advice to Management

When you visit a store, actually visit with the people who make it all happen...the ones on the front lines. D'oh!
