    Approves of CEO

I have been working at Carbonite full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Lots of intelligent and interesting coworkers. Fairly good opportunities for growth. Supportive structure for learning and experimenting. Genuinely exciting market opportunity in near future.

    Cons

Infrastructure could use some serious love and investment. Extremely tight schedules for chasing quarterly numbers. A technical leadership vacuum for a time.

    Advice to Management

More strategic investments with longer time horizons than 3-6 months. Focus more on a few select projects rather than trying to tackle everything at once.

    I worked at Carbonite

    Pros

Boston office is newer. They will feed you, the office is near the T which rarely works so thats not really even a pro...thats it I think.

    Cons

This company has been used as a cash cow for greedy executives at the cost of employees and investors. They really ought to be in jail cells together and might end up that way.

    Advice to Management

Advice to whoever buys this company. Two words. Clean house. Fire every single director and executive and start over with competant and professional business people.

I have been working at Carbonite full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The work office is nicely decorated with a hip feel to it including some Star Wars murals. The vacation policy is unlimited but you still have to find time to actually use it. They also provide snacks. Some great coworkers in other sections of Engineering who know how to get stuff done cross functionally.

    Cons

The Upper Management (Directors, VPs and above) seem to make awful people decisions. I've seen good employees gone the next day with little to no communication around what happened. Some departments seem to have this kind of thing happening quite often and as far as I can tell it's not because of a shortage of money as they try and quickly replace them with less competent workers. The politics here are a little extreme - You can't afford to completely stay out of it or you might be on the chopping block. Due to the fluctuating environment it's hard to accomplish work as people and departments you were working with shift often especially in the Engineering dept.

    Advice to Management

Stop firing people. The interview process here is not easy so it seems talented people are being mismanaged if they are having to be fired with such volume. Stop letting the best employees quit. Some that I know who have left did it due to this poor culture and environment.
