      Mixed Bag

Sep 28, 2016 - Program Manager in Boston, MA

      Business Outlook

      Pros

-Brand New Office in the Innovation District -Easily Accessible by public transportation -Snacks galore -Extravagant lunches on Fridays -Some genuinely good co-workers

      Cons

Used to be a great place to work until the layoffs began at an alarming rate. First the Engineers, then almost all of Marketing, then Customer Service was completely abolished from the Boston Office. But it didn't stop there as more Engineers and members of SaaS were unceremoniously dumped out of the blue. Even after becoming a victim of these layoffs (only a few months after getting promoted mind you), I hear that several more good workers have been let go from the Boston office. Not sure where the company is headed at this point, but certainly does not seem like a situation prospective job candidates should be too enthusiastic to jump into.

      False sense of security

Oct 25, 2017 - Technical Support in Boston, MA

      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

-Free snacks -Star Wars everything -State of the art facility -There's a Skype group for everything -Benefits

      Cons

-Management will tell you whatever you want to hear to squeeze as much production out of you, even if they're aware you're being let go soon. -People in HR discuss things about people's personal and professional lives when they're outside of work as if it's a joke. -My manager was remote and I saw him once every 3 months to discuss important matters or else it was me waiting on him to answer my chats several hours later. -Micro Management was awful. You were encouraged to only use the bathroom while on lunch and if you didn't, you received a weekly report on how long you were away from your desk when on non-approved breaks. -If you had a complaint about someone who was successful at their job but a terrible human being, managers would turn a blind eye to keep the peace and you become black balled for speaking up.

      Run, don't hide

      May 18, 2016 - Analytics

      Pros

Location Free Snacks Office Space A small handful of smart, hard-working individuals

      Cons

The entire work environment on the Analytics team is an issue. Hard working individuals who made a difference were taken advantage of until they left. This scenario continues to happen on this team. Additionally, poor hires continue to be made and then these employees are detrimental to the team being productive and eventually fired. This team has had the most turnover of the groups I'm familiar with at Carbonite and there doesn't seem to be an end to the constant restructuring. Over the last year most of the hires into Analytics fall into a 'friends and family' situation where some individuals are exactly not suited for the roles they are filling. If you join this group, ensure you can actually perform the job or you'll be let go or moved around and then let go.

      Poor Management

Mar 12, 2015 - Anonymous Employee in Boston, MA

      Pros

if your manager agrees there is great opportunity to WFH. They also had nice perks like gym discount, free snacks and drinks, breakfast on monday, etc. The company also just moved to a new office which was very bright and clean; however, kind of overkill/childish/cheesey with the Star Wars theme.

      Cons

Poor management. All of the managers are under experienced and way too young. They promote too quickly with lack of experience and background. There is also a sense of urgency and chaos - maybe because the products are weak or the managers don't know how to handle a team. Either way it is way too stressful of a work environment for no return. The overall failure of Carbonite can be pin pointed down to poor and inexperienced management. Lastly, the turnaround rate is insane. People are there one day, gone the next. I think I can count maybe 10 people who have been there for over a year. Doesn't help boost company morale knowing that either people are being let go by the dozens or not lasting more than four/five months in a role. Longevity is key to a company's success and worth. Sadly, the last con of this company is the office politics, gossip and drama. It starts on day one. This is to be expected with any company but at Carbonite this the worst I've ever seen it. I think a large part can be attributed to the lack of experience, professionalism and maturity amongst the employees and management.

Good until you get QA'd. Strict QA.

      Pros

Cool people to work with Experience under your belt Beer cart Pool table and video games in the break room An entire knowledge base internal and external to help you succeed Good scheduling (for my position and flexibility) Casual wear

      Cons

After the 3 week training and less than a week listening to Calls, I tHought this would be the best job to work At... until I was fired after being cleared on calls 3 weeks later and Panned on My calls. QuAlity AssuraNce or QA scores are what will sink you. They will judge you based on the calls they hear. Even if you thought you did everything right, think again. I was QA'd then given a 15+ page document regarding how bad I am at my job. You onLy gEt bEtter at this job from experience, not training and a week of listening to calls. 2 weeks of listening to calls would have been better. WHen I wAs let go, they put my stuff in a box, my manageR with no personality (which begs the question how he eVen got the job to bEgin with) tells me that "there's plentY of places out there to work" to which I reply "like where?" And he answered "I dunno. I'm not from here." Can't please anyone in that place. You'll be the customer's hero 9/10 times, but you fail on every level according to QA. I bet the 20 (I believe) people in my class have disappeared once hitting the floor: 2 from training and 3 on the floor and counting. Those who can do the work, good luck dealing with the old QA guy. But I'm ok now...

currently good, but limited opportunities for progress

Sep 2, 2019 - Anonymous Employee in Cork

      Pros

health insurance for the whole family, quarterly and yearly bonus, pension plan.

      Cons

No share options for the Irish employees, which is unusual for a publicly listed company, compared to other multinationals in the region! Pension plan could be more generous - EMC/DELL introduced just as we were leaving 7.5%. Match at least that! Long term security - very small office with limited or no opportunities to grow! Working from home is not an option, even on a day or two base! As former Mozy employees, the question of redundancy policy will always bother us! Our colleagues who were let go after Carbonite purchased Mozy, were very well rewarded by EMC?DELL. Carbointe's redundancy policy as a new entry in the Irish labor market is still unknown and hence worrying!
