    Pros

When financial times were better, they provided occasional thank you lunches, annual Christmas party, and there were some very dedicated and hard workers. Pay and benefits were average.

    Cons

Recalls were financially devastating. There were likely other contributing factors to the spiral.

I worked at Cardiac Science Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This was a great small company. Was obvious that all of the American leaders and staff (at all levels) were fantastic! We made a lifesaving product and everyone knew it and cared.

    Cons

At the time Opto drained this company of all resources.. the business cycle was broken and they were on prepay with suppliers. You needed to check that you got paid on Friday's because they were struggling to survive.

    Advice to Management

You have a fantastic opportunity with the Indians gone! Make Cardiac Science #1 again!! You have a great product and wonderful people! They know how to work and drive to do a great job all the time. Success is in your future!

    Pros

Great products, great people, great opportunity. Loved my time there.

    Cons

When the company was purchased by Opto Circuits-India it began a rapid decline in all areas because of poor management and being under capitalized.

Now that they are a US based company once again I am hopeful and confident they will prevail. With time and hard work I believe they will.

    Advice to Management

    1. When you introduce a new product ask those who will be selling it for feedback and truly listen to it. You may be surprised at the ideas they come up with and even if you don't use them it will make them feel that you valued their opinion enough to ask.

    2. A basic tenet of business is to never lose good people. I am astounded that you have allowed this to happen countless times over my tenure.

    3. Managers should inspire their teams to work hard and for many years that's exactly what you did. It was not until my new manager thought the passenger seat in my car was for them and micro managed every minute of everyday that I knew it was time to leave.

    4. I have never seen a company file bankruptcy and new ownership retain much of the same leadership that got them there.

    Pros

Great team with a great culture of attention to detail, uncompromised quality and very few local politics.

    Cons

    Pros

Company makes medical devices that save lives and it is very rewarding to hear about lives that were saved.

    Cons

Company went through a major shift of resources during this period moving resources out of the Seattle, WA area to other areas of the country.

    Advice to Management

The parent company in India should have taken a much more hands-off approach with the US operations.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Cardiac Science Corporation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good products, decent vacation and other benefits. Some really kind people throughout the organization. During periods where product is shipping and morale is good, it could actually be a lot of fun to work.

    Cons

Completely unstable. Company is now in their 5th or 6th cycle of laying people off in the last 4 years. Their Waukesha HQ closed out of the blue recently after they defaulted on a loan. Following yet another subsequent RIF, the skeleton crew manning the call center and customer service is now stuffed into the actual factory building in Deerfield. Management lies outright and by omission constantly.

    Advice to Management

Be honest with your employees and customers. Set realistic expectations. Communicate. Don't rob Peter to pay Paul. If it's time to close the doors, then just accept it and stop this ridiculous cycle.
