I have been working at Cardinal Solutions

    Pros

Challenging atmosphere, trust in employees, lots of opportunity to learn new technology, able to be “self managed”, fun location downtown

    Cons

Very distanced from management (pro?), no room for upward advancement, still a little old school about working remotely and flexibility

I worked at Cardinal Solutions full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Medical insurance plan. Excellent at hiring employees without any clue as to what they will do.

    Cons

Really too many to list. High turnover, stale work environment. Lots of idle time and a high favoritism environment. Advancing opportunities are not there. Don't take the bait if you truly think you'll advance here.

    Advice to Management

Wow...where to start. CEO needs a true vision of where he wants his company to go. Truly a guppy in a shark tank.

I worked at Cardinal Solutions full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Kelly and Nick worked hard to make this company what it is today. It speaks volumes that they have grown to approximately 500 consultants supporting 7 offices over 21 years. They have found a great leadership staff to support their day-to-day sales and operations. They know how to find and retain talent and I would highly recommend Cardinal as a career or solutions provider.

    Cons

You have to like consulting or this is not going to be for you. Account Managers own placement of your next project and you may not have an option on where you go/what you do.

    Advice to Management

Engage the consultants and utilize their networks. Be more transparent in sale goals/initiatives. Also, coach new people on what type of hires to look for. The goal should be to hire people they would want to work next to...not a bonus for every new hire they get. While the bonus is a great incentive, I feel it opens to the door for employees to push unqualified people through to get a bonus.

I have been working at Cardinal Solutions full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great coworkers, morale is high and attitude is great. Plenty of opportunities to learn new things and grow your skills. Fun social activities, plenty of company-sponsored events. Great communication from management.

    Cons

Contract work; you might get difficult assignments. Sometimes you are at a client site, not close the offices.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!

I worked at Cardinal Solutions for more than a year

    Pros

Excellent company to work for! They focus on personal development and education, while providing rewarding and challenging placement opportunities for their consultants. Unlike many other consulting agencies, they don't just place independent contractors, rather have a bench for there staff PMs and BAs. Highly recommend them.

    Cons

Like most consulting agencies, while on assignment, can feel isolated from company.

I have been working at Cardinal Solutions full-time for less than a year

    Pros

A lot of team-building activities and a very pro-family organization. Forward-looking and approachable management. Not afraid to dive into the latest trends. Will pay mileage expenses at a certain point.

    Cons

Some of the clients are not the easiest to work with. Benefits are average, possibly a bit below average (insurance, bonuses, etc.).

    Advice to Management

Keep looking forward and continue pushing the latest dev trends. Possibly look into less expensive health insurance and a stronger 401(k) match.

I have been working at Cardinal Solutions full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Variety of projects Strong account manager\consultant relationships Strong strategic partnerships allow for "top shelf" projects Plenty of opportunities for career growth and mentorship Strong work\life balance

    Cons

Benefits are on par with size of company Main office\branch office support structure for backoffice items

    Advice to Management

As Cardinal continues to grow and open new branches, don't loose sight of what made Cardinal great in the first place!

I have been working at Cardinal Solutions full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Decent Benefits, Can be very understanding with regards to personal life/ work-life balance, Decent pay for some, fun company outings and events

    Cons

Mgmt wants Cardinal to be a "big" company but has not implemented internal processes, updated systems, or changed policies to reflect the growth or enforced the ones that are currently in place at times. Discipline and rewards are not consistent throughout the company; one person will get fired for something that another person who has committed the same violation will not be fired for b/c the second person is in... the good ole boys club or has a hire charge rate. Career and professional growth is non-existent, we are encouraged to come up with creative ways to grow our careers but at the end of the day the account managers dictate what happens, they run the office and what they say goes so if they dont like you... good luck. They are Extremely Reactive versus Proactive when it comes to Employee Retention, they treat you like Crap and then when they are about to lose you they throw a bunch of lies on the table to make you happy for that second. Consultants hitting the ceiling and them not doing anything about it (nor caring), its the perception that Leadership doesn't expect Cardinal to be a long term place for most and that is why there are no plans to update the management structure to match up with the growth of the organization. They hire people when new/interesting opportunities come in instead of rotating out their consultants to help them grow.

    Advice to Management

Stop the preferential treatment and update management structure to reflect growth, starting being more proactive with employee retention

I worked at Cardinal Solutions full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good compensation Great opportunity for paid internships (future stars) - could use the opportunity to learn for a year

    Cons

Clickish culture Leadership is command and control (old school) Inexperienced consultants Promotions and raises based on who you know (in crowd) No idea how to run a professional consulting firm Staff augmentation reality with a strategic consulting sales pitch to prospects

    Advice to Management

Hire some professional leadership. The growth from within strategy means more of the same failures that are driving the experts away. The best practice manager you had walked due to lack of opportunity. Like minded consensus equals continued decline in 2013

I have been working at Cardinal Solutions full-time

    Pros

Nice offices and great location Good relationships with large clients Reasonable compensation Expensive but fantastic health insurance

    Cons

Clique driven Lots of bench time Recent firings for consultants with no assignment Poor quality of local leadership - the HQ leadership seems great but local leadership at by the executive and team leader level is very poor Be prepared to spend lots of time beyond the time you bill to the client doing "Cardinal stuff" if you want to be part of the in crowd and be considered important

    Advice to Management

Stop listening to the people who will go drinking with you and listen to the consultants that your clients like - in the end, they make you successful. And hire more senior consultants - the huge proportion of "this is my first job" people makes for a difficult environment for internal teams, etc.
