I have been working at Cardinal Stritch University part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The campus is beautiful and the students are wonderful to work with. The benefits are decent and general atmosphere is positive.

    Cons

The top down corporate style management is difficult to understand in a university setting. Most people are easy to work with but there is a large gap between where decisions are made and action is taken.

I worked at Cardinal Stritch University full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Some of the students are very friendly and fun to interact with. Half of the people you work with are very friendly and personable, and will be fun to work with.

    Cons

The university has lost its way and won't be finding it any time soon. There has been a lot of set backs in the last 10 years and they haven't figured out how to bounce back from them. So that means low chance for raises, minimal raises if you get one, no room for advancement, random layoffs, random "restructuring" (which is code for positions are eliminated and everyone's work load goes up), no guidance from management, and no accountability.

    Advice to Management

Stop taking your workers for granted. Stop trying to squeeze everything you can from them. Treat your workers better considering how much you are demanding from them.

    Pros

Great students, amazing co-workers, and wonderful mission.

    Cons

Departments not able to work together smoothly. Unable to advance in career depending on department. No direction from upper management.

I worked at Cardinal Stritch University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Working with the students, faculty and colleagues is the best part of Cardinal Stritch. Watching the students grow and achieving their goals is a great reminder what we work so hard everyday.

    Cons

There are some really troubled people who hold upper level management and leadership roles that shouldn't be there. The university has a history of budget cuts every year that major cuts with no end in sight.

    Advice to Management

The College of Business has great courses on management and leadership...signing yourself up in those course could be beneficial to the university.

    Pros

Assistantships provide up to 15 credits (6 per semester, 3 summer) annually as part of compensation.

    Cons

Different graduate programs have different course loads per semester and the university does not account for these differences. Stipends are also minimal and mainly cover fees that are not part of remission.

I worked at Cardinal Stritch University full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The students are the best part of working at this university. Opportunities to interact with them and share knowledge. Fellow faculty show support and caring.

    Cons

While the university prides itself on Franciscan values they seem to have lost their way over the last few years. Administration no longer looks for faculty feedback but rather is centered on being a cold place to work with little respect for those with experience or ideas that are not top down.

    Advice to Management

Restore some of the belief in the faculty.

    Fun atmosphere
    Flexible with work hours

    Cons

    Not many hours
Have to be a student living in the dorms

    Advice to Management

Open it up to the public. Really fun place to work and learn.

    Pros

The bosses are easy-going. They understand your schedule & are willing to work around it. It was a great way to offset some tuition.

    Cons

No benefits, besides the pay of course!
