I worked at Cardno full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Fairly good background in ports and harbors within the USA. Some good references to former clients when putting together proposals for new work. Can work from home since the central office is small (staff)

    Cons

Mainly Government contracts - therefore risky and little room for aggressive pricing of consulting services Ownership is a venture capital firm, focused on profits which are never big enough . Company seems to be pruning itself for sale (2019) based on conversations with former employees Little interest in exploring markets outside the USA

I worked at Cardno full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great maternity leave! You can stay home for a year while everyone else picks up your slack and doesn't get compensated.

    Cons

The company has been in a terrible situation after the pump & dump that screwed over all the employees when the stock price went to pennies. That caused years of layoffs with no raises or bonuses. Yet, utilization rates are still expected to stay up. This causes people to do unethical things like charge jobs they don't work on. Pay is way below average.

    Advice to Management

    Audit, consolidate real estate

I worked at Cardno full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Talented technical and support staff; decent benefits for new hires.

    Cons

Little or no recognition of achievements made by an individual, therefore, advancement in the firm is nearly impossible. Inept senior management on national level in the United States that is clueless as to how to motivate employees and how to retain them. Low morale permeates the firm due to poor management decisions.

    Advice to Management

Stop cutting talented senior staff from your roster. Giving employees ultimatums to take massive reductions in salary or to leave does not make you an employer of choice. Hiring less experienced staff to replace more experienced ones that you have cut from your roster will not help advance your bottom line in the near future. Yours is a market sector where experience does matter.

I worked at Cardno full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great and dedicated staff all committed to international development work. Smart, competent and very friendly. Low tolerance of anti-social behaviour. Very interesting projects and you get a wide range of experience.

    Cons

A bit disorganised. You have to figure a lot out for yourself, which is why it helps to have great colleagues. Can be a stressful environment with client needs and challenging contractors in the field.
