I worked at Cardno full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Thank goodness they sold off their USA environmental division before they ruined it.

    Cons

Too tope heavy and buys businesses that are going under for a reason... no market anymore with developments and regulations. Bought companies in South America that were dirty.

    Advice to Management

Less upper management and more project driven... Look to the future, not the past. BTW... Andrew Goodwin is no longer there, he lasted less than 2 months. Ian Ball is the CEO since August 8, 2018.

    Pros

They pay well but do not promote easily so you get stuck.

    Cons

Contracting is hit or miss, feast or famine. VERY male dominated culture.

I worked at Cardno full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great people with opportunity to grow technical skills including assessment and remediation. Diverse technological applications for remediation. Additional opportunities to travel and expand business.

    Cons

Company needed to diversify beyond primary contract for oil and gas client. High employee turnover after primary contract took effect.

    Advice to Management

Need to diversify into sectors beyond oil and gas.

I worked at Cardno full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Decent benefit and pay structure, although not as good as it was a couple of years ago.

    Cons

Every word that inept said,. This company is an abject lesson in the Peter Principle. The people who knew how to run the companies that Cardno bought have left in droves, leaving those who are in over their heads in charge. And if you are a woman - forget being treated as an equal. You will hear all the correct words, but the actions don't match.

    Advice to Management

It wouldn't matter because they all have their own agendas and wouldn't pay attention or change.

I have been working at Cardno full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The company can do about most anything in house and has an extensive network of employees worldwide. Company does great things in poor countries around the world. Ranks highly amongst competitors on ENR lists. Not afraid to make investments in new regions through new hires. Engineering peers especially from the old TBE Group side are mostly still there and great to work with.

    Cons

If your not in one of the premiere business units (CEI, SUE or Environmental), then your unit constantly gets over shadowed and even overuled when it comes to business decisIons. Company does not consider Design as one of its core values recently identified by new CEO. Too many people jockeying for their 'next' position as the company is constantly going through some sort of reorg. High level folks are marginally compitent mostly due because they were great at running things when it was mid sized company, but it's evident there are leadership struggles since the full merger and expansion, mostly regarding Cardno's EES Division in the Southeast. Very Poor upward mobility (company would rather hire or recruit someone away from another firm who has proven ability). Combine that with the complete lack of desire to promote from within, except for high level positions going even higher, I'm referring mid staff level and mid management). Poor bonus structure, as the poor performance of the company's assets oversees and very poor acquisition decisions (ATC) diminishes any personal or small group revenue gains. Stock has lost 99% of value within 6 months. They roll out a new policy or procedure too frequently. HR team is but an online website. Stock structure is too complicated for taxes since it's an Australian company you almost need to hire a tax accountant.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Cardno full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Interesting projects and good people to work with on a daily basis. The parent company Cardno seems to care about employees. Benefits are slightly above industry average. I really enjoy working with the people in my office.

    Cons

Lack of client diversification affects salary, benefits, and job security. Accounting and human resource departments seems to be understaffed. I've had low work-life balance over the last three years because of a large project. The company has been slow to respond when additional staff is needed. Executives communicate poorly with staff.
