I worked at Care UK full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good training, meet interesting people, rewarding work caring for elderly

    Cons

Tragic management/organization, poor pay for the amount of hours worked (I worked a 15 hour shift and got paid for 8 hours as they don't account for travel time or petrol used), no advice or help given when on the job, zero benefits (or at least if there were they never informed me of these when I joined).

    Advice to Management

You provide good training so why not continue the support once people start their work? It can be very daunting starting out as a care worker all alone in a rough area and if there is no helpline available it feels even worse and like you are not cared for. Pay people a proper wage - you advertised £8 an hour yet only pay for the time spent in service users' houses, which is usually 15 minutes, half an hour max. False advertising and waste of petrol and time. And finally cut down the hours for each shift - just like the service users we have a life outside, too, but working 15 hour days prevents us from having any enjoyment.

I have been working at Care UK full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A company that truly cares about its patients, and endeavours to do things better at all times. There is always an interesting new challenge to get involved in, and an opportunity to make a difference without encountering lots of red tape or barriers.

    Cons

Because the business is always evolving and developing it can be difficult to keep abreast of changes in the services Care UK provides...sometimes you find out later than you'd like to, but it keeps you on your toes!

    Advice to Management

Implement a process that helps to inform everyone of business developments and changes to the services provided

I worked at Care UK full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Progressive career path if you want it , yearly training, NVQs, good e- learning but can be soul destroying and demotivating if your not careful.

    Cons

Minimum staffing levels, loss of break times, high stress levels, no incentive to do extra shifts or duties , loss of pay if late but no pay if late leaving. No pay for travelling to training even when you live a long way away. Training on days off or when on leave.

    Advice to Management

Value your non-clinical care home staff, give them decent pay, Team Leaders to be paid the same as Nurses, pay sick pay especially for work related time off,

I worked at Care UK full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Wonderful residents that you could learn a thing or two from. Training opportunities. Some standout staff who really care and go above and beyond.

    Cons

Long hours. Short staffed. Favouritism. Gossip culture. Bullying. Low wages. Unprofessional staff. Management is disconnected from reality. Real issues are ignored.

    Advice to Management

Invest in the good staff and let go the ones who have consistently failed. Care quality is low and on a downward spiral.
