I worked at CareFusion full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

After the spinoff we had a great group of creative, collaborative, and talented people.

    Cons

Once the company was acquired, creativity was squelched and it became a very competitive environment.

    Pros

    Great People. Helpful and competent.

    Cons

Lack of exec leadership enables toxic managers to gain to much responsibility.

I worked at CareFusion full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good employees BELOW the director management level.

    Cons

From the director level up CF has completely lost its ability to understand and appreciate the employees. They pretend to care about the "little people" but their actions speak louder than their words. Long term employees are no longer appreciated or wanted. It is a company of "favorites" now. There is a "do as I say" and don't question me attitude that is not only demeaning to the field, but also shows how little management appreciates the years of experience that they have.

    Advice to Management

You have lost some very loyal people in the last year. Understanding that you wanted "new blood/new ideas" only will hurt you in the long run. The people you have lost truly loved and respected the company. Now you will have a bunch of folks who will stay until something better comes along. Hopefully BD will see this for what it is before it's too late for CF to continue to be a market leader or even a company that someone can be proud to work for.

I worked at CareFusion as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

I can't think of anything good except for okay pay.

    Cons

The culture is horrible, there is a lot of gossip and unprofessionallism from the employees as well as management. They literally talk about breast and butt lifts. If you are not a part of the clique you are immediately singled out and frowned upon. Management allows poor attendance and disrespect from employees. I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy. The work is simple, but oftentimes one finds themselves twiddling their thumbs with nothing to do. Retention is high, during my time we lost 5 people over a time span of 3 weeks. Not to mention how everyday so many germs are passed through coughing and sneezing. I received an ear infection and a star over my eye from poor health conditions. The company does not have the decency to inform ill employees to cover their mouths or stay at home to prevent all of the other employees from getting sick. The employees are rude and inconsiderate and the company need some serious work. I was placed under direction with someone who constantly whispered and told gossip about other employees. This sets a very bad example and tone for new employees and the company as a whole.

    Advice to Management

Stop allowing poor attendance and rude behavior from employees. Place someone in charge that isn’t going to sit down, whisper and gossip about other employees. It creates a very uncomfortable and non-productive environment .

    Cons

Dismal communication between departments, managers unskilled and immature, so sharing of information and resources between related groups

    Advice to Management

Screen your management hires more carefully and select mature, steady, calm personnel

I worked at CareFusion full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great team in the implementation areas - analysts, engineers, project managers. Will do anything necessary to make sure the customer is satisfied. Salary is competitive.

    Cons

2+ years ago the senior leadership was replaced and all but a few were former GE Healthcare people. They had no respect for the implementation team. They eliminated all the direct managers for the implementation team and made them reapply just to get rid of a few employees. This, along with the continued disrespect of most of the people on this team, caused the morale to plummet and that is where it stays. Stay away from this company and more specifically the implementation group. They don't have a good product anymore and are trying to fit a circle into a square peg. Customers are very upset and walking away. They introduced something that was only 1/2 baked and expected the implementation team to manage this, without any help from leadership.

    Advice to Management

Make sure you release a fully baked product instead of trying to make it work in the field. This was the way CFN used to do business years ago and we got away from it, but it seems as if revenue is the bottom line and nothing else matters. This used to be a great place to work. No more.

    Pros

There are nearly no pros except if you live near. Maybe free coffee and tea? Everyone leaves all the time so there are a lot of open divisions?

    Cons

Everything is a con about this place. It's a mickey mouse operation. Everyone runs around like a chicken with their head chopped off.

    Advice to Management

Look at completely reorganizing your organization. Maybe follow a little what BD does. Anything is an improvement. Don't hire and promote your friends who are completely incompetent.

I worked at CareFusion full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Average to above average compensation in management / senior management. Great separation package at the right level, although the workers are less fortunate

    Cons

Product pipeline has been dry for years. R&D has been spinning their wheels. Customer impact associated with BD merger and outsourcing will lead to a major change of senior leadership (CIO will be out) leading to reversal of a portion of the I.T. outsource deal. In the end, the customer will suffer and that will drive the change. It's too bad that this is not evident to the current decision makers. Its a long road ahead for those retained.

    Advice to Management

Too late for advice. 6 months ago I would have recommended some due diligence. Should have looked at some other F500 companies that have taken this route and reversed course when faced with financial consequences of the change.

    Pros

Some of the people are nice and smart. They are in the minority.

    Cons

Negative culture is pervasive throughout the company. Big egos and big tempers.

    Advice to Management

You'll continue to repel good candidates and lose existing talent by neglecting the culture. CareFusion is one of the least professional companies I've worked at.

I worked at CareFusion (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The company makes medical devices that save lives. The products are well-engineered and well-manufactured. Saw them in action, it was great.

    Cons

Too much middle management that aren't held responsible for their poor decision-making and lack of experience managing people. The non-managers, who do ALL the work, are the last ones to get any credit. First discretionary 401k match was taken away, then employee bonus program but managers who take no responsibility still get bonuses. The "culture," as they like to call it, sounds really good from the outside but is not upheld once you start working there. Too many people stuck in the same role for years, busting their humps but never getting promoted - instead a contractor was brought in and paid way more for the same work. Pretty much zero room for advancement unless you go to another department entirely. Everything is a big secret; office doors are closed all the time and managers pretend like they don't know what's going on; they may tell a few of their 'insiders' and then those people walk around acting like they're better than everyone else because they know something you don't. Lots of cliques like a high school but the managers just say the groups are "siloed." I got so sick of hearing that word when the truth was people put themselves into those groups and refused to interact with others unless forced to.

    Advice to Management

Your HR department has a lot of great individual contributors in your manager-and-higher levels, however, they have ZERO people management skills. An over 50% turnover in HR within just a few years ought to show you that. Employees are held responsible for the tiniest of errors but managers don't take responsibility for their mistakes: they just blame their subordinates for everything. Hopefully when you're taken over by BD they'll be able to get rid of the overpaid managers and VPs who do nothing but take credit for everyone else's work.
