I worked at Career Education part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -Colleagues
    -The joy of teaching
-Interacting with students striving to learn

    Cons

    -Exploitative compensation
-Profit motive permeates all aspects of administration
-Students are seen and treated as costumers/consumers
-Company tries to keep as many instructors on part-time/adjunct status as possible

    Advice to Management

Very little that management can do without eliminating profit motive out of the equation. Other than that, increasing instructor pay and incentives to teach in their schools would be a good start.

    Pros

There are a lot of great people there who care about the students and have a strong work ethic (though this isn't the case for everyone). I was fortunate to have some really good managers over the years who supported me and were open to me taking my career in the direction I wanted. There is a lot of promotion from within, even across teams, and a lot of people who have worked there for a long time.

    Cons

It's a challenging industry that gets a lot of negative press, and it is highly regulated.

    Advice to Management

Communicate, communicate, communicate. Create a true culture and model it for employees.

I have been working at Career Education part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Ability to have a flexible schedule, pay (if you have been here for a long time), a lot of friendships made with fellow employees, can be a fun atmosphere at times

    Cons

Cap out at 4 weeks vacation time after 10 yrs, not given much sick time, lower mgmt does not have to follow same rules as employees (I.e. Attendance policies), lower mgmt "comfortable" in their positions, limited, no room for growth

    Advice to Management

Lower mgmt needs ongoing manager training, also need to be reevaluated the same as employees are & to see how efficient they really are in their position (and if they should still be in that position)
