I have been working at Carestream Health full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Happy to be working in such an engaging research & development area. Co-workers are great and the local management does their best. Recently, the culture has improved.

    Cons

Overall, Carestream as a company does not treat employees as well as other companies. Being owned by Onex Corporation means that the company can have a shorter term focus. That being said, they have found ways of being cost effective on things like health insurance while at the same time giving access to a limitless network of doctors. Upper management does not create an environment of trust & respect.

    Advice to Management

Put more emphasis on career development, recognition, and improving the performance appraisal process. Focus on long term goals that will have discriminating value in the market, not just the next quarter.

    Pros

A good place to be employed. Job is good and the employees are nice and friendly. I am also getting good work experience on various fork trucks.

    Cons

On some days the word is very steady. Your crew needs to keep up with the production flow to prevent the machinery from shutting down.

    Advice to Management

I am just a temporary contractor but I would really like to have full time employment.

I worked at Carestream Health full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The job pays competitively, and keeps up with training, as well as offering opportunities for travel in the correct departments. The vacation doesn't rollover, but does increase with tenure. Not a great place to work, but definitely good.

    Cons

Very clique-ish. Groups of friends tend to get promoted, although talent is recognized if it is bright enough. Management is a little disjointed, but means well.

    Advice to Management

Management needs more follow through, and needs to open up the opportunities for advancement beyond a small circle. Training is excellent, as are benefits.

I worked at Carestream Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Pay rate is one of the best in the industry. Good benefits, health, 401k matching, great co workers. Fringe benefits were really good, like company car, etc.

    Cons

Very unorganized. I felt middle management 'whitewashed' information so upper management had no chance to make correct decisions. Sales promised things that were not in the product to get contract then disappeared and expected implementation to make it work. Very heavy work load with little to no management backing.

    Advice to Management

Review sales contracts before signature. Rate middle management on project successes. Require certified project managers.

I have been working at Carestream Health full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

OK products and some dedicated teams or hard working individuals.

    Cons

An inherent poor professional culture which has been supported by senior executives at the company as a way to get results. Unreasonable targets set which results in little more that a stressful and poor working culture, an unbalanced work/life and an environment where employee trust and team work is non existent. This is bolstered by old school HR policies and a 90's performance management system which good companies abandoned 5 years ago which has resulted in good people leaving Carestream.

Senior executives need to be held more accountable for creating and fostering a culture where organizational trust, integrity and professional unity is a poor cousin to executive ego's and their annual bonus.

    Advice to Management

Cover the boardroom walls with mirrors and look at yourselves before dealing out blame on others. Be accountable and act with some integrity.

I have been working at Carestream Health full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Many passionate and knowledgeable associates left. Good pay/benefits package.

    Cons

Carestream is another perfect example of a failed transformation of business. This is like Kodak all over again. Most of the focus of the senior team still sits in the dying film business that exceeds their goals each year as they are able to negotiate low targets. This leads to great bonuses for the few dictators involved in this business. The CEO talks in his quarterly town-hall meetings mostly about the film business rather than the digital businesses which is a clear sign of his priorities. He clearly failed to implement any strategies that allow us to differentiate ourselves from the big players in the medical imaging industry which leads to poor results in the digital businesses. We also experience a mass-exodus of Senior Executives and other talent as they either get fired because they challenge the CEO or leave because they found a company with better opportunities and especially company values. The CEO sits most of his time in his corner office worrying about himself rather than leading from the front and through people. It is really sad to see this company going down as it would have had so much potential.

    Advice to Management

Take your million dollar bonuses and leave so we can get a new leadership team that salvages what's left.

    Pros

Excellent starting pay, not much else to say.

    Cons

Field service does not need to be sales driven, management has no clue.

    Advice to Management

Senior management has generated a caustic environment. Put down the not so smart phone, turn the computer off and pay attention to the employees.
