I have been working at Carestream Health full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Dedicated employees who care more than management. Pay is average, and benefits were once good.

    Cons

Management was engaging Enron annual review process, firing the bottom 10 percent for the past 10 years, but now that a significant percent if the employees have quit, they ended that practice and have deeply cut the 401k program and earned vacation benifits for 2019 and beyond . The culture is bad, and has turned toxic. Fear is the culture here.

    Advice to Management

Read up on employee satisfaction. When it is already significantly below average, don't think words will cover up massive compensation cuts for the employees who write the bill, and bring in the income. Unless there is another end plan (or end date) for this company.

You are on this website either because you are applying for a position at Carestream or you are an employee wondering if your experiences are the same as others. It’s always good to know what you are walking into. In this case, the news is not positive. As for others experiences, the numerous negative reviews on this site probably answer that question. Glassdoor asks for some pros to working at Carestream. Unfortunately,...

    Cons

Now for the cons. Far more numerous: Culture: The culture here is the biggest problem with the organization. The culture is the major reason that people in the Rochester area don’t want to work at Carestream. All you have to do is look at the Glassdoor ratings. Abysmal. 66% would not recommend to a friend. 74% disapprove of the CEO. Look at the previous reviews. Most filled with vitriol. Someone wrote that...

    Advice to Management

It has all been said before in previous reviews. The reality is that they will spend more time talking about the review and pinning it on a person, than to work toward meaningful change.

I have been working at Carestream Health full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

Designing innovative, useful products. Good co-workers. Excellent pay. Successfully shedding Kodak culture and becoming more nimble and innovative.

    Cons

Culture of fear based on yearly performance ranking and firing bottom 10%. International wokforce hard to coordinate, leads to product development inefficiency. Once innovative detector products have been bypassed by competitors. Top people don't stay long.

    Advice to Management

You have long ago fired the loafers and incompetents. Now your'e firing good people. Find a better appraisal system.

I worked at Carestream Health full-time

    Pros

Carestream has some of the most intelligent and smart engineers in town. You will get to work with mostly the latest technologies and some of these engineers are actually personable and friendly. But most of all, Carestream pays well, much better than any company in town, for now, while others are catching up. The compensation for the right person is 20% - 30% more than the average in the town and in all, might be...

    Cons

Let’s talk about leadership. Carestream is filled with Kodak senior managers and very few outsiders. If leaders screw up on a project, it’s okay, they are part of the old-boys-club in the upper management echelon, so they move on to another role. Let’s talk about pay. I mentioned in the 'pros' that the company compensates everybody well. But then the employees have to put up with outsourcing overhead because...

    Advice to Management

Nurture your people, they are all you have to get you good products. And trust your people, no need to micro-manage them. Focus on employee development instead of treating them as replaceable pawns.

    Pros

Pay is OK. Peers really want to create supperior products.

    Cons

Who would want to work in a position where teams are torn annually by 'bottom 10' being cut. If you mention you are in the bottom 10% you are walked out. When you are walked out, you get 3 weeks pay to sign you will never work here again. Crazy and true.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the ranking any let these brilliant engineers rule the medical imaging world. When the economy changes, no one will stay!

    I worked at Carestream Health

    Pros

Challenging work on medical products. Opportunity to interface with multinational partners, customers and work with some very talented coworkers. Constant job openings due to the 10% reductions and restructuring. Average benefits, good location.

    Cons

Management is following the GE model of Topgrading throughout Rochester. Continual ranking, walking out the bottom 10% frequently. No training, must wrap yourself around your boss to survive. Long hours slogging away. Creating a long slow ride down a draining pool of talented people.

    Advice to Management

Put together your data , if it exists, on the topgrading done so far and share with employees its affects on the bottom line. Expose the method to the madness.
