I worked at Carestream Health for more than 9 years

    Pros

    1) Pay is good comparable to other local companies. Benefits were good, but are being progressively stripped. 2) There is a small collective of high-performers that continue to do all that is necessary to drive the business and do the right thing. 3) (As a salaried employee) So as long as you are willing to regularly in excess of a 60 hour work week, you have the flexibility to construct/manage your work day.

    Cons

    1) Lack of transformative vision to save what's left of the business. 2) Change-driving projects, particularly in IT, rarely come to fruition due to 'Death by Analysis' by its principals. 3) Select R&D leadership is vacant and self-serving, with lack of innovative thought and positional insecurities that cause high-performers to exit the company. 4) There is a considerable gender and political pay gap, the...

    Advice to Management

    1) Focus on, and fully support, transformative growth and innovation efforts in the businesses that are not being stripped and salvaged. Demonstrate some bravery and trust in passionate and dedicated employees who want to make a difference in alignment with corporate objectives. 2) Don't replicate the Kodak model of riding out the film cash cow until there's nothing left and you're left with entering odd markets that...

I have been working at Carestream Health full-time for more than 20 years

      Pros

Lots of fun things to work on. Innovative products. Good, smart people. Good compensation.

      Cons

Crippled company (for now). Kodak Health/Carestream has been a crippled company for almost a whole generation. Way back in the Kodak days, the company was not able to re-invest its profits back into the company, as the money was absorbed back into other failing Kodak businesses. Then the company is sold to a capital investment firm and the company once again cannot re-invest its profits back into the company due to...

      Advice to Management

Admit that the company is crippled and realize that everyone is doing the best that they can. Understand how each individual is now doing the work of several absent people, but not as well as could be expected of a normally staffed, going concern, that reinvests its profits back into the company.

I have been working at Carestream Health full-time for more than 4 years

      Pros

Good people work here, lots of growth opportunity for both products and people. The digital x-ray systems are top quality and easy to sell. There is real potential for career development if you can tough it out long enough to get in a position to make some changes. Honestly, it's easy to come here and make quick improvement since things are such a disaster.

      Cons

LOTS of bureaucracy, antiquated processes, short sighted goals, bad decisions everywhere. No regard for anything except chasing revenue at the end of the month even if it means the company loses money on the deal. Too many people make a decision that is bad for the company or loses money, but it makes their report look good. Too few people doing too much work. Every department from top to bottom is understaffed, but...

      Advice to Management

You can only squeeze the lemon so long before nothing is left. We need to try and balance the short term with the long term. Customer concerns should be addressed and not ignored. Too much busy work to generate and review reports but why waste your time if root cause doesn't get addressed? Throw out the Kodak organizational model and streamline things. The processes should be reviewed and simplified. Almost everything...

I have been working at Carestream Health full-time for more than 20 years

        Pros

Some very good people here who actually want to do the right thing and build excellent products. These are people to learn from and haven't been already jaded by mid/upper management.

        Cons

Hyper and inflexible schedule driven. Less concern for the true cost of quality, design for longevity, or employee satisfaction. More concerned with management bonuses. Focus is to rush to market then fix all the issues as a direct result and then punish everyone for having to make these fixes.

        Advice to Management

Start walking the talk and abandon the schedule-only driven approach and truly support the DesignForX initiative that so far has ONLY been given lip service. Eliminate the moral-busting employee ranking appraisal system that continues to reward only the select few and demoralize the greater good.

I have been working at Carestream Health

        Pros

A lot of variety. A lot of good people to work with. Doing fun and interesting things. Good place to work.

        Cons

Forced ranking. Although I have never gotten a poor rating, a lot of people here have. Some may deserve it, but others didn't. Some people that get bad ratings are good employees, but because management must follow a curve, someones needs to get a bad rating simply because someone needs to get it.

        Advice to Management

I think the local management is doing a good job. It's the upper management that needs to wake up... soon.
