I worked at Carestream Health full-time for more than 9 years

    Pros

The place is a cesspool. Strong comradery amounts those who perform helps you get through the day.

    Cons

I have never worked for a company with the level of incompetence at the senior management and executive level seen at Carestream. The Peter principle is very much alive and well.

    Advice to Management

Stop the insanity and defying logic. Your company lacks real leaders. Instead you have people who will say or do anything to protect themselves and the incompetent yes men that report to them. Your culture does not recognize or support real leadership. Instead, it is threatened by it. Time for an overhaul.

I worked at Carestream Health full-time for more than a year

    Pros

People from middle management down are awesome! Projects and technologies are interesting and innovative. The cafeteria is pretty good.

    Cons

Senior management manages with fear and intimidation in a boys club atmosphere. Forced ranking performance evaluations punishes good employees and rewards mediocre employees. Work life balance is non existent. You work 60-80 hours per week and are made to feel guilty because you're not working more.

    Advice to Management

People are your greatest asset. And a focus should be made to encourage people to want to perform by showing appreciation. When the environment is supportive, people deliver with results.

I have been working at Carestream Health full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

Exciting products, innovative R&D teams, the working level teams truly care and put their heart and soul into the products. Excellent pay, solid benefits. Truly a global company with products that are often top in their categories. So much potential is managed by true leaders.

    Cons

Senior management talks about employee morale yet actions do not match words. Even fairly high level leaders are micro managed by the ELT to an amazing level of lower level details, controlling every penny spent and every decision made. Decisions are seemingly made with the very short term financial impact being the primary driver with little emphasis on long term growth. It...

    Advice to Management

Stop leading with old school GE principles and embrace modern management styles. Even GE has eliminated the relative performancr system. Trust the top talent you have placed in lead roles and stop micromanaging every small operational detail. Instead work on building and conveying a 5-10 year strategic vision that will inspire teams to excel.

I have been working at Carestream Health full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Some truly talented and motivated colleagues. Lots of interesting technology and products. Good salary and benefits. Have enjoyed coming to work each day. In the right hands, this company could thrive.

    Cons

Carestream seems to be a bunch of individual businesses cobbled together without much thought or direction. Senior management has a significant cultural problem on their hands and yet does absolutely zero to specifically address that which is plainly obvious. Who the heck has forced rankings anymore? CEO is more technically capable and tuned-in than most, but he doesn't seem...

    Advice to Management

Lose forced ranking immediately. No one benefits from it, and everyone hates it. It would immediately restore some faith that executive management is listening. Stop whining about foreign exchange and provide some vision for the future. Make some tough decisions rather than letting the prevailing winds blow this company around.

I have been working at Carestream Health

    Pros

You can find jobs here as the turn over driven by performance management makes this happen. Great exposure to a regulated business in Multinational markets. So great individuals to work with.

    Cons

Leadership is not good from the top down. The tone of the company is set from Senior management which does not value, trust or treat employees fairly at any level. The values written on the walls are for everyone except senior management and they prove that daily. Also company is looking too short term. Need some leadership that...

    Pros

Our product portfolio saves lives. What could be better then that. I really enjoy the people that work for Carestream. They are very dedicated to their work and responsibilities.

    Cons

There are way too many layers of Management. I would personally cut several and apply that cost elsewhere. Senior Management is not fit for an IPO. SOX compliance will be a challenge.

    Advice to Management

You need to get out of the office and see how your operation is running.

I have been working at Carestream Health

    Pros

This company has great people yet there is a lack of teamwork amongst them. The overall strategy of Carestream is good yet there is a constant panic that destroys a lot of good momentum.

    Cons

Many of the best employees get frustrated and leave because they don't want to deal with the constant panic and bureaucracy that's used in certain parts of the organization. The use of intimidation and fear is a common practice within the company and members of the senior management team support such behaviors. There is a clear hire and fire mentality.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees! Don't destroy the company by driving your best people out the door.

I have been working at Carestream Health

    Pros

This company seems to hire anyone, qualified or not. They just hope or do not care if you are any good or not. A great place to start out, get your foot in the door. Here you can learn very basic but solid troubleshooting and customer service. They are a stable company and paychecks come on time as well as providing a minimal amount of time off/sick time.

    Cons

Their pay scale is fairly non existent. Be prepared to work there for a year and leave, there are absolutely NO incentives to stay and work there for longer than it takes to find a new job. You will not be rewarded for a job well done, they are a revolving door for everyone not just tech support. Expect to have 3-5 different managers in your first year. No relationships will be gained and you will constantly have...

    Advice to Management

These guys should try to shift the focus from people using this as a step through job into giving their employees a reason to make this place their career. The long term benefits of working there are few and far between.

I worked at Carestream Health full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

They don't (yet) physically chain you to your desk - so you are still free to leave when it becomes unbearable.

    Cons

In my experience Carestream was a very unpleasant place to work. The American senior management operate a culture of bullying and oppression which puts a great deal of unnecessary stress on workers. HR in Carestream is in a very, very sorry state, with a bizarre method of appraisal that simply doesn't stand up to any logical scrutiny. I left Carestream a few months ago and...

    Advice to Management

Advice to management? I wouldn't waste my time offering advice because it is absolutely obvious that the Rochester management team have no intention whatsoever of even listening to anyone, let alone considering or acting upon advice from without. What I will say, though, is that having worked for a large company before Carestream, and now working for a medium-large company since Carestream, it is absolutely obvious that...

I have been working at Carestream Health

    Pros

    - lots of really good and especially hardworking people

    Cons

    - total lack of trust in normal employees - extremely bureaucratic and slow in making decisions - senior management uses intimidation and other primitive techniques to get their way - several really good executives left over the last 12 months which leaves us with the really bad ones

    Advice to Management

    - take your money and leave so we can rebuilt what you messed up - we need a CEO with a vision and not an EGO
