"Insular Environment, Sycophants Rewarded, Tenure Valued Above all Else"

    Pros

Large organization; very longstanding presence. Global operations - so potential opportunity to experience work in various portions of the globe.

    Cons

Tenure is valued FAR more than anything else. Many senior leaders have been in their roles for many, many years - a result of their having been promoted well beyond their capabilities. However, the Cargill culture is that "If you've been with the company 20+ years, you MUST be a good guy..." Conversely, if you've come from outside the company, your talents, efforts, actual results (should anyone bother to notice those) are discounted. After all, if you've not been there a couple of decades, you're simply assumed to be clueless.

I've worked for a number of multi-billion-dollar public companies - and Cargill, or at least the portion of it that I experienced, has by far the weakest, most insecure, least professional, and most inbred management team of all.

I cannot, in good conscience, recommend Cargill as an employer. Join at your own risk!

    Advice to Management

Learn how to recognize, and to value, actual performance. Sycophants and long-tenured mediocrities are only going to take the organization so far. While recognition of actual capabilities and performance will require some insight, effort, and competence on your part, the organization will benefit.

You've suffered a significant talent flight in recent years.....ever wonder why that is?

I worked at Cargill full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Free fitness.
    Health insurance.
    Training's.
    leader in its market

    Cons

    Poor wages .
    Poor bonus.
    No possibility to grow.
Lot of department has been outsourced (vessel operation, accounting, contract desk, HR, IT)
You have zero chance to grow in this company. There is no plan to develop people and to make them growing within the company.
Most of mid management has been fired in 2014/15/16.
Unrealistic goals set and you have no way to discuss it.
If you are atrader the above does not apply as you will be a dancing queen there but if you are a back office or support group ( name it as you want....) then bad luck.
Once you get too many years you become expensive and they push you out.

    Advice to Management

Treating people like numbers will end up costing you more than investing long term and to keep/protect Cargill Brand. you made some bad choice to fire and dismantle the different division. Nobody look at Cargill with serious anymore. it is sad to see that you took the deliberate decision to destroy what took so many years to build.

I worked at Cargill full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Decent benefits, encourages community involvement, OK salary

    Cons

Old school management coming back into style to the detriment of family atmosphere that made Cargill what it was known for, lack of respect for experience, outside individuals brought in to "change the culture" which eliminated advancement potential, no career planning, long hours expected

    Advice to Management

Listen to what employees are really saying about the company not what management consultants are selling
