I have been working at Caribou Coffee full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

If you are a morning person, starting at 5am and being off by 3pm is amazing! Scheduling and time off is really flexible.

    Cons

The company is constantly taking a new direction. You have to be able to adapt to change and be on board to make the cut. Also the pay isn't the greatest, especially considering the stress is involves managing millennials who don't care about being written up or fired.

I have been working at Caribou Coffee full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Self management. Benefits. Compensation. Fellow employees. Create your own schedule. Paid time off easy to accrue for Management/full time employees.

    Cons

Micro managing, not much growth. Not much opportunity out of the Midwest. Growing too quickly with not enough organization at store level.

    Advice to Management

Look deeper at the people being promoted and don't overlook the faults.

I worked at Caribou Coffee (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The guests you grew to knew and love more than just customers, they become friends and family.

    Cons

When the company was taken private, it really changed the vibe inside the stores.

I have been working at Caribou Coffee full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - The product is amazing. They're always keeping it fresh, local, and innovative.
    - The culture is fun and the company always thinks "outside of the box."
    - The company really works on being action oriented and listening to their employees. They take regular team member engagement surveys, and shares those results publicly.

    Cons

    - Too many unrealistic expectations and demands for management.
    - There's not enough in store support for store managers.
    - Demanding work load and long days/hours.
    - Being responsible for your store 24/7. I've seen other managers miss out on their vacations, important family events, and the lack a real work/life balance.
    - The compensation and bonus structure is terrible.

    Advice to Management

    - Pay your people for the hard work that they actually do. You expect way to much from your Store Managers, and you pay them significantly less then your competitors.
    - Financially invest in creating a position for store managers to have some store level support.
    - District managers often end up as "middle men" and never put on an apron to help behind the counter.
    - Set realistic expectations. Your eco-sure visits kill morale and set impossible expectations. I find it ridiculous that a store can pass a health inspection with flying colors, but "fail" your eco-sure audits because they scored below an 80%.
    - Give your teams 1 - 3 priorities instead of several things to execute perfectly. (Ie., labor, staffing, guest satisfaction, cogs, operating expenses, eco-sure, controllable profit, seasonal promotions, etc.) What's most important to you? No one is superman.

I have been working at Caribou Coffee full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Excellent trend of care for both customers and employees.
    Free coffee
    Fun, relaxed work environment
    Make your own schedule
    Wonderful benefits

    Cons

Sales goals are not an option or a goal - they must be met at any expense
No work life balance. Expect to get up at 3:30AM or work as late as 12:30AM in some locations
You are never off of work. Calls can come at anytime and you are expected to answer
Little to no room to move up past store management

    Advice to Management

Don't forget what made your company great. Focus on employees and customer relationships and sales will follow just as they have the last decade. This crazy push for sales, comps, and cold calling is not in the spirit of Caribou.

    Pros

Great Leadership, Great Values and Quality Product. Benefits are good & there are great opportunities for advancement at the Store level! Opened many New Stores in 2012 while many other companies were downsizing. Still opening more in 2012.

    Cons

All Retail- so expect Retail hours and hard work.

    Advice to Management

    Increase R&R points/value

    Pros

All the coffee you will ever need and amazing products.

    Cons

They will work you to the bone!! You never feel like your off and the district management is horrible.

    Advice to Management

Give your store managers more time off. 47 hour work weeks are slave labor for the so called "salaries" you give out.
