I worked at Carlson Restaurants part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

That the staff was decent to work with

    Cons

Management was terrible, never took any advise always blamed the server for everything couldn't deal with the complaints of the guest. The kitchen was terrible the wait time for food took way to long and there was always guest complaints.

    Advice to Management

Hire general managers, other managing, servers, and kitchen staff that knows how to run a restaurant and keep ticket times from exceeding the proper time

I have been working at Carlson Restaurants full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The people I get to work with are fantastic! My team is close and our leader ensures that despite the challenges we face, we remain informed and engaged. Our executives have a lot of pressure and they really go out of their way to share as much information as they can. They've had to make tough decisions but remain committed to the brand, to our employees and most of all to our guests. Great benefits, generous paid time off, lots of extra perks that I think are taken for granted.

    Cons

If you've worked anywhere, you quickly learn no place is perfect. Business is tough and this industry is competitive. If we don't make a profit we don't survive and people's livelihoods are at stake. There is constant change, lots of late hours, and the pressure can be high as the company transitions away from Carlson. There is much uncertainty and ambiguity and the pace is very fast.

    Advice to Management

Keep striving for transparency. Continue to show that you care as much for the employees as the guest. Ensure you keep top talent engaged through competitive compensation and a fun corporate culture.

    Pros

Good benefits and comensation but that's about it

    Cons

They only care about the dollar... The employees and guests mean nothing to them.

    Advice to Management

I worked for Fridays for 20 years. In the beginning we were the place to eat and drink in a fun atmosphere. It's nothing like it was in the 90's and before. My advice.... go back 20 years and do what you did then!

    Pros

The atmosphere is fun and the training, especially for bartending is very thorough. At the time that I worked for Friday's they had a great program that allowed you to pick up shifts across the country called the passport program.

    Cons

The menu was too large for the kitchen to produce in a timely fashion. Glad to see that they have updated the uniforms.

    Pros

Work life balance is there if you make it but it will not be given.

    Cons

The late night hrs.that you have to work

    Advice to Management

training needs some real overhaul people leave there jobs due to lack of training and employees loose respect for managers when they have to train them and then you leave them at the same restaurant. Overall I liked my job !
