    Pros

Lots of training and support from mfg. reps. You work with great customers

    Cons

Micro management but that was at this branch

    Give salespeople more freedom

    I worked at Carlton-Bates full-time

    Pros

Working with customers is enjoyable. Customer benefits and pay are good and the job itself is rewarding.

    Cons

Depending on which group you are a part of, work is fast-paced and if management has allowed your co-workers to be off the phone, you end up answering call after call with no time in between to manage orders and follow up with customers in a timely manner.

    Advice to Management

Pay more attention to the phone schedule and how many people you allow off the phone at one time. Treat your employees like you would like to be treated.

    I worked at Carlton-Bates full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Lots of good customers out there , so much opportunity if the right type of workers and management in place .

    Cons

Horrible management...no opportunities for growth. Lack of support for inside sales from management. Extremely unprofessional environment. Company does not care to keep long time employees with knowledge and expertise.

    Advice to Management

Focus on developing your sales people. Pay attention to customer needs. Too many obstacles in the way for a sales oriented person to be efficient.

    I worked at Carlton-Bates full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I worked with some excellent sales professionals, Loyal customers, and wonderful examples of how sales processes should be done.

    Cons

Some of the internal processes could use a bit of overhaul and streamlining. They need to be a bit more customer centric with the internal aspects of the business, customers want it now, and 2-3 weeks on a process can cause a lot of double stepping for the sales force.

    Advice to Management

Work on RMA, and VMI processes. There is too much competition in the market to allow for delays in basic business propositions.

    Pros

Good people to work with, able to transfer department after 90 days, good benefits and work hours/days.

    Cons

Lack of training, lack of confidentiality, lack communication/understanding in certain departments.

    Advice to Management

Listen and talk with your employees on a regular basis. They may be able to shed some light with what's really going on within your departments.

I have been working at Carlton-Bates (More than a year)

    Pros

Co-workers & mgmt are great people to work with. Great schedule. Get holidays off with pay.

    Cons

Mgmt doesn't hold reps accountable for mistakes. Company doesn't tell you about changes until after the fact.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees about ideas. Hire reps who are actually qualified not b/c you know them from past jobs.

I have been working at Carlton-Bates full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great set schedule. Monday thru Friday 8-5. Co-workers are great to work with. Big clients means big commision.

    Cons

Base pay is low. Client list based on seniority. Was told by upper management that 5yrs must go by before I can think about moving up in title.

    Advice to Management

Need more one on one with each employee. Personally, was not trained on the system and learned along as worked. Took me a year to understand how things run.
