I worked at Carlton Fields full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Posh office and mostly friendly staff. Good pay and perks.

    Cons

There is a lot of gossip and an us versus them mentality between the attorneys and staff. The staff is at the mercy of the attorneys and as a result is often mistreated. Administration lacks the ability to champion the staff when attorneys overstep the boundries of what is considered respectful.

    Advice to Management

Understand that all parts to a machine help it work properly. And teach the attorneys that you can get more bees with honey than vinegar.

I worked at Carlton Fields full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Wonderful attorneys and staff. Good benefits. Easy commute to the Hartford Office. Flexible with time off and emergency leave. All in all a good place, but as stated in Cons - really no job security.

    Cons

They were formerly known as Carlton Fields Jorden Burt and since the name was changed back to Carlton Fields at the beginning of the year, people have been let go. They are downsizing and job security is not guaranteed.

    Advice to Management

Need to communicate better with staff. Monthly meetings were supposed to happen, but never did.

I have been working at Carlton Fields full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Mediocre benefit package, and by mediocre I mean, I was forced to list a pro and that is the only thing I could come up with.

    Cons

Real Estate Shareholders. Human Resources. Management. Pay. Morale. PTO Days. Too many cliques. People don't report Attorney and HR abuse for fear of losing their jobs.

    Advice to Management

Make some changes to the Miami Real Estate power structure.
Insist that the anti harassment and other rules set in place for non attorneys are followed by attorneys as well.
Hire HR people for the Miami office that have just a shred of integrity.
Implement some sort of training for all employees that discourages the bad behavior that goes on in The Miami office.
Discipline the Shareholders that so frequently mistreat staff instead of retaliating against the victims that speak up against it.
Realize that the revolving door that exists in Miami is for a good reason and do something to stop it.
The "we are family" mantra that you pretend exists, does not. Not at all. Stop spreading that falsity.

    Pros

CF has a great work environment, offers excellent salaries and attracts very good attorneys.

    Cons

Since its merger with Jordan, the firm has become too large.

    Advice to Management

    Retain mid-size feel of firm.
