I worked at Carlton & United Breweries full-time

    Pros

Working with strong brands and very talented people. Opportunity for career growth if you are willing to work hard (lots of overtime). Freedom to make decisions and run with things - make it happen! High energy work environment.

    Cons

Appear to value profit over people. The workload is high and timeframes to deliver short, results in a lot of out of hours work. The workload of managers is also high and therefore they don't have time to mentor and coach to help your development. It is very fast paced which can be great, but often at the sacrifice of good planning, this results in duplication of the same work by multiple people.

    Advice to Management

Improved planning could increase overall efficiency.

I worked at Carlton & United Breweries full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

As part of AB-InBev, great opportunities to move around and try new areas if you are / want to be a generalist. Open to new ideas and possessing a start-up approach and culture (tee's not ties).

    Cons

If you are a specialist, you will likely have to leave the company or your field as your salary will erode over time (no CPI adjustments, etc). Poor at prioritizing the activities that matter, resulting in many people working urgently. As many people are new to role, experience in role across the company is sometimes lacking. As the focus is on the new ground and technology, often the foundational elements of... quality, process and rigour are overlooked as they aren't as fun to play with.

    Advice to Management

    1. Consider how to retain and nurture some of the critical specialists roles. 2. Drive more focus into the work of management; set a clear but limited strategy, help business functions prioritise around that strategy, and ensure that the structures / systems / processes enable delivery. Ensure ownership of the day-to-day issues stays at the level where it should be owned. 2. CUB is business unit grouped together... along with Vietnam and India in order to achieve geographic synergies. These are hugely different markets, so consideration should be given to "re-zoning" ABI around market clusters and grouping Australia with say North America and parts of Europe. (The challenge of working across time-zones is there now so needs to be solved regardless).

I have been working at Carlton & United Breweries

    Pros

Plenty of opportunities for a good number of interns this summer. My project is interesting and challenging. Lots of diversity in the scope of projects over the whole program - and good opportunity to understand part of the business. I find the staff incredibly helpful and friendly if you approach them for something. Strong company culture. Beers on Friday afternoons.

    Cons

Not all interns were placed into areas of their interest, some projects are therefore less interesting or satisfactory to those individuals. Very large company so sometimes you're spending whole days in meetings and can be hard to get time to actually do work.

I worked at Carlton & United Breweries full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Free beer and plenty of opportunity to shine in front of stakeholders with numerous cross functional projects that take place.

    Cons

Constant meetings leaves little time to get to priorities, hence lots of 'after hours' work required to catch up.

    Advice to Management

High expectations, drive short time frames to deliver results, conflicts with the work life balance.
