I have been working at Carmel Clay Schools full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I work in the kitchen at an elementary. The people I work with are great. The pay is OK (the district pays well above whhat others do.
The big plus is we get all the holidays and breaks off.
This is a great place if you are a parent. I go to work after my child gets on the bus and I am home about one hour before she does.

    Cons

The downside is there is no pay when school is not in session.

Since you don't work in the summer, there is no paycheck.

    Pros

school hours and vacations/breaks, working with children, fast paced

    Cons

I was the cook at Cherry Tree Elementary School and I enjoyed my work and kids, but the kitchen was toxic and full of drama. I would be busy boating food and the other workers would go sit at the break table and eat snacks and claim to be bored. Supposedly, no one could take a break until all work was done but the manager never address this. My manager was unfair, sarcastic, snarky, biased and unethical-I never knew when she was serious or not, she allowed several employees to watch college sporting events on line and she allowed an employee to buy Christmas presents during serving hours. My manager could not order or inventory properly, so on many occasions there was not enough food for me to cook when the orders were placed and she would get mad. During serving, several lunch ladies wouldn't allow the students to go back and get a side dish if it was forgotten. Students are entitled to 2 sides. One lunch lady rarely wore gloves or a hair net while prepping food, and she was aggressive and outspoken to everyone and has caused several substitutes to leave in tears and never return. Upper management would not address these issues.

    Advice to Management

I would suggest they do something about it!
