I worked at Carolinas HealthCare System full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Ok pay. Most managers care a lot about the employees (depending on supervisor) IF you are not lazy, and do a good job, upper management will listen to you.

    Cons

    A very strict attendance policy

I worked at Carolinas HealthCare System full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Co-workers are mission driven, fair and obtainable bonus system, good working conditions.

    Cons

Some disconnection between stated mission and actually rewarded performance

    Advice to Management

Motivate employees by allowing them to connect their personal mission to the corporate mission

    Cons

I didn't love the cramped office spaces.

I have been working at Carolinas HealthCare System full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Big organization, good development and training, opportunities to transfer to different departments or facilities. Great EAP program, and grievance process for employee that receive disciplinary action.

    Cons

Not enough career development (opportunities to promote or career explore), HR needs to become more involved with Line Managers about how to deal with employee problems - Hoping that the new LEAN processing and CRIM Models will help with this.

    Advice to Management

Take a more active role with unit activities, don't take sides or ignore issues presented by employees, making sure accountability is expected from all employees - when employees are allowed to get away with not doing certain tasks or not following rules, then those employees who go above and beyond feel like they are not recognized for picking up extra slack (point is there should be no extra slack).

I worked at Carolinas HealthCare System full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Teammates. I worked with some fantastic, talented people. Unbelievably knowledgeable coworkers, always willing to help out.

    Cons

Management. I worked in several different areas through my years with the company and it was almost exactly the same regardless of where I worked. People put in management positions that knew nothing of the jobs they were managing and were basically "yes men" for higher ups. It was as if knowledge and experience were not valued, as most of the people promoted and put into management positions lacked those qualities. There are always exceptions and I knew of a few really great, qualified managers but they were few and far between. One of the places I worked was very questionable about certain managers. Targeting them, forcing resignations if higherups decided they didn't like them anymore, and even in several occasions making up false allegations to force termination. It got to the point that I finally found a job outside the company because I couldn't stomach the behavior of some of the management staff.

    Advice to Management

Promote from within. There are some truly talented people there and those talents are being wasted because they may not be easily controlled by higher ups.

I have been working at Carolinas HealthCare System full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You can self schedule. It's a 3 day work week.

    Cons

Sadly management is only interested in having RNs or RTs. This is the ONLY system that does not allow their paramedics to fly in any type of aircraft. When I left my previous system, I was a senior medic and well respected. Here I have been referred to as....just a medic......a driver.....others have refused to work with our most experienced medics in critical care configurations, requesting another RT for transport. This type of disrespectful behavior is common place.

    Advice to Management

Before i came to work here, I idolized Med Car Air. After being here for a year it is a colossal disappointment. There is too much hostility between disciplines, no respect from dispatch, and no accountability for those who cause the seperation. One bad apple can easily spoil the bunch, unfortunately you have a bushel of bad ones.
