I have been working at Carowinds full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Coasters employee cafeteria (fairly cheap) Free park admission on days off Relatively high pay for a position not requiring a college degree ($10.50/hr) The lifeguard class itself is fairly interesting. In fact, it is the most interesting part of this job.

    Cons

Guests can be annoying/rude, particularly children and teenagers. Expect to stand for the duration of the day; you will only sit at one position in your rotation, at maximum. Breaks will be short: 35 minutes for the first and 15 minutes for the second, excluding time to walk to and from backstage areas. For those with autism, beware. The constant chatter, music, and bright colors may induce sensory overload. The...

    Advice to Management

Training should be overhauled to teach more techniques for guest interaction as this was not sufficiently covered. Breaks should be extended to 45 minutes for the first break and 25 for the second. Employees should be allowed to carry bandages for themselves to cover blisters and friction burns on the feet. Finally, although I understand that this position is safety sensitive and therefore requires a certain standard,...

I worked at Carowinds part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The people in HR are generally nice. Most of the staff is made up of high school/college aged kids, so a lot of people get along pretty easily. Great opportunity for someone around that age, especially if you're looking for a summer job. The staff is very willing to work around a schedule, so you can be very flexible if you need to be.

    Cons

Because of the age of the employees, it's just like high school where they can be some random drama between people.
