I worked at Carriage Services full-time

    Pros

Autonomy and somewhat competitive base wage.

    Cons

    No real bonus structure available.

    Advice to Management

Implement bonus structure for the front line to reward increased revenues. Incentives for obtaining greater than average contracts would be appreciated.

I worked at Carriage Services full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The funeral directors, Family Service staff that I worked with and managed do truly care about families and doing things right by the families they are serving.

    Cons

The corporation claims to follow a local operating business model. That works well if they have the right people in place, but they do not. They talk a good game, but micro-manage the local teams. They've hired too many Managing Partners that cannot manage their teams without their division support making decisions for them.

    Advice to Management

Give good managers real time to turn around the messes they inherit. Stop firing and hiring managers every 6 months when they haven't had time to barely get to know their staff, let alone what changes need to be made.

I worked at Carriage Services full-time

    Pros

Great working relationships with other employees, decent benefits.

    Cons

Commission only position working on a reserve system that does not work to the benefit of the counselor. Stressful work overload. Ridiculous required sales goals.

    Advice to Management

Success starts from the top and trickles down. If the top management does not show care to the employees, then a large turn over should be expected. You should reward and be kind to good employees, to keep them.

    Pros

There is a company HR department so you are able to report to someone other than your immediate manager.

    Cons

Not much oversight of Managing Partners, they are basically allowed to do anything they want without repercussion.

    Advice to Management

Acknowledge that employees are the heart of the business. Reward loyalty.

    Cons

Does not care about morale. Without the people working at the business, the business would not survive. Stock is manipulated by employee purchase program. Company is based on a book titled Good to Great. What a joke.

    Advice to Management
