    Advice to Management

Put yourself in the shoes of each employee under your supervision. Make sure they have the support they need and are not over burdened.

    Pros

Supportive environment for staff members. Tuition reimbursement for Healthcare related degrees is really great, and they are understanding about working around unpredictable class schedules. The pay is higher here than most psychiatric hospitals.

    Cons

Really difficult field to be in. Mental health doesn't pay very well, especially on the entry level and the level of burnout is high.

I worked at Carrier Clinic full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Always able to pick-up additional shifts if you wish to work more.

    Cons

Always short-staffed. As a result, good employees come and go. Carrier prefers hiring within and often hires individuals that do nor possess adequate knowledge required in a Behavioral atmosphere where a degree in Social Work and Psych would prove beneficial.

    Advice to Management

Management needs a fresh face as well.

I have been working at Carrier Clinic full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

A good work environment with tuition reimbursement.Lots of overtime even if you are hired as a per diem staff or part time employee

    Cons

The work can be stressful because you are dealing with people with mental health.

    Advice to Management

Management may want to increase pay rates for MHTs to avoid the high turn over rates among this group of employees.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Carrier Clinic full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

if you're good at rapport building you may find yourself working with some truly great kids

    Cons

high stress, moderate to high rate of staff injuries due to assault, no support for staff, rarely able to have your shifts covered if you need a day off, very demanding, staff are not appreciated, low morale, and the pay is not worth it. Very high rate of turnover.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the direct care staff when they tell you there's a problem because as management, you have absolutely no idea what it's like to work in the milieus and we do. Spend more time improving the environment for staff and residents and less time trying to make a buck.

I worked at Carrier Clinic part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Hands-on experience. Helpful co-workers. Available overtime. Carrier is a good place to start to help you decide if you want to pursue a career in behavioral or mental health.

    Advice to Management

I worked at Carrier Clinic full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Most people were absolutely amazing. Competent and willing to teach. Good place to get experience. Undergoing changes currently.

    Cons

The hospital constant experiences mild-severe low staffing issues. First year turnover rate among nursing/Mental Health Technician staff. Undergoing changes currently.

    Advice to Management

Work on first year turnover from perspective of employees and save yourself thousands on hiring new staff every month. That money could be used towards countless current projects.
