I worked at Carrier iQ (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Many diverse challenges to work on. Nice that they provide food. Good people to work with. Technology oriented toward improving consumer experiences.

    Cons

Sometimes a bit hectic as the company struggled with balance between being a product development company vs a service oriented company. If you expected to be a product developer, you'd often find yourself helping with the service aspect.

Be judicious when eating the brownies.

I worked at Carrier iQ full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    * CEO & CTO were excellent - they left in early 2011 new team has been struggling
    * Good location
    * Nice environment
    * Technically interesting product, but not practical for partners to implement

    Cons

    * Company created an unnecessary PR nightmare at the end of 2011 & early 2012. Turns out it was false but the damage was done. It was all over the national news and named as one of the top stories in Mobile in 2012
    * Engineering consumes too many of the companies resources
    * Current Mgt seems to simply like to pass along good news while things go in the wrong direction
    * Product is far too difficult for partners - Mobile Phone manufacturers - to implement, meaning the original core idea the company is built on is simply not practical

    Advice to Management

Be transparent and in the details like the previous CEO (2006 - early 2011) and CTO (2007 - early 2011) were

    "A good idea... poorly executed"

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in Mountain View, CA
Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in Mountain View, CA

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

    - Flexible work hours, little overtime, low stress
    - Most staff are nice and many are very talented
    - Lots of free food
    - Occasionally technically interesting

    Cons

    - No technical or business strategy
    - No focus or ability to distinguish between what's important and what's not
    - No communication within teams, between teams, or between working-level and management
    - Little management respect for working-level staff
    - Almost zero wireless/telecom experience amongst management
    - No HR department (surprisingly harmful)
    - Wild, wild west-type development "process" (and not in a good way)

    Advice to Management

This company's problems are institutional. There has been little change in leadership in the past five years. Perhaps a clean sweep of Sales, Engineering, and the C-level would breathe new life into the organization.

Cool technology - a good idea for providing important information to carriers

    Cons

Senior management - very secretive and not forthcoming

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent with/towards your employees. Trust them, and perhaps they will trust you at least a little more.

"Run away - the facade is wearing thin."

Former Employee - Witheld in Mountain View, CA
Former Employee - Witheld in Mountain View, CA
    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

Good food - a monthly Costco bill that is larger than some states budgets
Good location - walkable to downtown Mountain View. When the company kitchen wears on you, walk downtown for lunch. A short walk from the downtown Mountain View train station makes the commute easier.
Free Cell Phones - The company is in the wireless business. Most folks walk around with 3 or 4 cell phones - most with full voice and data plans. Want to call home to India - it's considered "testing".
Mac friendly - If you don't want to be part of the Microsoft world, you don't have to.

    Cons

Lack of downward communication - the Exec's don't want to ruin the party.
Over-Diluted Stock. Toilet paper has more value
Infrastructure? What infrastructure? Simple things like e-mail and network are a challenge.

    Advice to Management

When half of the office is attending the Executive Staff meeting, do you think there are too many of you?
