    Pros

A lot of talented people working here. Great benefits including time off. Employee perks year round to keep employees engaged and motivated. Lunches, ice cream trucks, potlucks, etc. help with moral. Great product makes employees proud to work here.

    Cons

organizational structure a bit confusing but hopefully clarification will come with new leadership. Need more information on how the company is performing. This has been promised by new leadership.

    Pros

    Was nice and now horrible.

    Cons

Nothing changes. Need new blood with energy and new ideas. Particularly with head in Columbus office. Been there 20 yrs or so and it's same old same old. Plus, rude and mean. Operations in NC needs a complete makeover. Useless and no sense or concern to improve processes. Again, in position long time, comfortable with attitude of who cares. Also, a mean know it all.

    A Good Stepping Stone

    Pros

Two weeks for christmas vacation Pay was decent Some nice people but most of them have left. see below * Nancy has good Christmas Parties. If you get invited to that then you are cool. Kind of cool to say you work for a children's book publisher and see the products in book stores

    Cons

The management is so disconnected from the employees. Al is a very nice guy and good CEO. I wouldn't say he's the problem. The rest of the upper management is so wrapped up in themselves. They don't care about you or what you say. They'll run you into the ground. Very fake so dont ever feel safe with your job. They'll promise you things and never follow through. The marketing department dropped from 16 people to 5 within a year. Mostly due to people leaving. They also did a huge firing sweep late 2015 and let go a lot of good people. Don't expect to move up within the company because that never happens. Wasn't absolutely miserable here but the shady things management does like hiding things from employees leaves you not wanting to stay for long term. very repetitive work. people get moved to positions they dont want to in order to cover for people who left. Its been the same management for years. The best thing this company can be used for is a stepping stone. Put in a few years and move on. Thats what everyone else does.

    Pros

Popcorn Friday (which became few and far between maybe due to cutting costs) Finance department did a great job on hosting taco days

    Cons

They try to wrap you into an underpaid hourly position that gives no work home relationship CEO wasn’t respected due to his lack of a backbone plus his bragging about a newly built ice skating rink in his backyard was off putting considering his employees worked long hours while he flew all over on company dime. IT is outsourced overseas which makes development impossible to stay consistent as well as maintaining the site so that nothing breaks. If you do happen to fall upon this place for your next job just note the CTO shows up late everyday has an impersonal attitude and only acts that way because he knows very little about his job.

    Pros

Friendly and mostly hard-working people. Somewhat flexible but that really depended on who you worked for. Benefits were good, which I appreciated very much. Loved the flexible schedule I was allowed to work.

    Cons

Upper management is clueless even though there was thought to be initiative behind being able to email the CEO directly but I found that no matter what if there was a conflict with upper management, they really didn't want to hear it which makes them clueless to the actual runnings of the business. HR dept needs to be tight lipped and held to a higher standard as they tend to share too much and some lack adequate skills and lots of free talkative time.Poor communications and depts still work in silos rather than a whole. Root cause management doesn't listen to the average employee who are folks that really know the ins and outs..

    Overall a great experience

    Pros

Work/life balance is respected, the HR team is on top of making sure everyone feels comfortable and safe, many employee recognition events (both small and large) to boost morale and join together as a team, laid back atmosphere and dress code, friendly co-workers, great benefit plan.

    Cons

There seems to be a lot of confusion as to what the company's brand is, as in, what the vision and values are as a whole. There is a lot of departmental confusion as well, for a company this large, it seems that there isn't a clear direction. Things have been working, but it would be nice to fully recognize and know where this direction is heading.

Great Company to work for Excellent time off policy

    Pros

Great co workers, Christmas time off is awesome! You really do feel valued as an employee. Great HR Team.

    Cons

The coffee is horrible, Not much room for advancement unless you are a lifer at Carson Dellosa. Pay could be a bit better as well. Inconsistency with main office accountability and warehouse accountability. Warehouse Management really has a tight belt and is very performance driven. Main office is more laid back and gets away with a lot more.

    Good Company with Great Potential

Sep 20, 2016 - Anonymous Employee in Greensboro, NC

    Pros

The company fosters a relaxed, comfortable culture and casual dress code. Diversity of personalities seems to be appreciated. Life/work balance is respected and encouraged. The company does a good job of making employees feel appreciated. It sponsors a number of appreciation events throughout the year, both small (ice cream and cookie socials) and large (catered luncheon and gift cards). Excellent vacation and holiday schedule. MLK is offered as a flex holiday rather than closing company for the day. Holiday pay for the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day is very generous and very much appreciated by employees. Good benefit plans – company picks up majority of the cost of health and dental plus provides life and disability insurance and a match on 401(k) plan. Other types of insurance plans are offered at affordable group rates. Company provides gym membership for interested employees. With the exception of the few difficult personalities found in any workplace, the staff is solid and there are good working relationships among co-workers. Communication is open between departments. There are some very good members of the management team who work hard and want only the best for their employees and the company.

    Cons

There are some communication and accountability issues. Senior management is not always forthcoming with information about the state of the company, and at times, comes off as indecisive, which leaves employees wondering and gossiping. There doesn’t seem to be clear vision, expectations, and goals across the organization. Some individual managers and departments do a much better job than others with accountability, professionalism, and performance, which leads to inconsistencies and frustrations when dealing with those who are not doing their jobs. Unfortunately, there are a few bad managers in the mix with large egos and personal agendas. They do not respect others, play favorites, shirk their duties, spend money needlessly, and do not act toward the best welfare of the company. However, the organization has taken positive steps recently to reorganize and resolve some of these issues, especially with accountability.
