I have been working at Carter's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people, great environment, good benefits. The company leadership is very approachable and make people feel valued.

    Cons

Pay will likely be less than at a competitor, but that is somewhat offset by good benefits. Company growth expectations combined with a tough retail market lead to a "do more with less" mentality.

    Advice to Management

Reward the strong talent. Continue to reinvest in the tools necessary for your people to succeed.

    I worked at Carter's full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The pay is well - its comparable to other companies in the district.

    Cons

Everything else about this place sucks. They do not match your 401K all year long - once the yearly financial review comes out they decide then how much will be matched. My first year it ended up being like a %0.33 match. On my yearly review my manager told me she wanted to give me exceed expectations, but was informed by HR that only Mike Casey gets exceeds expectations... how convenient for him considering he owns the company.

    Advice to Management

    Move back to Connecticut

    I worked at Carter's full-time

    Pros

Great salary, bonus potential, company match 401K up to allowed by law (then $17.5K)

    Cons

Training and Development was not on par with other Fortune 500 companies, practically non existent, no clear career steps in further promotion or on the other hand to improve performance, lack of constructive feedback, empty promises, long hours, lack of cross functional cohesiveness, lack of education on new systems, decisions made in a vacuum, conservative values impede on celebrating a diverse and open environment for minorities or those of LGBTQ employees and their families, management was top heavy at VP and above.

    Advice to Management

clear and precise succession plan that is openly shared with employees, trim some of the top heavy VPs in the company and put more mid to senior management in place. Create a more openly and accepting work environment that is acceptable for by all employees.

    I worked at Carter's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The work-life balance is not bad - just be prepared for slow days and very busy days. Peers here are also friendly. All the benefits are great except for medical insurance.

    Cons

Pay is low / no more bonuses. Turnover rate is high. Promotions are not always given for those who work hard and take on special projects.

    Advice to Management

HR provides resources for growth & development but departmental managers do not invest in helping individuals grow - they are too focused on themselves. As for the company, stop spending money and go back to focusing on your employees' growth and pay - your employees will thank you for that.
