    Pros

There is plenty of room to move around in the company, and try out different positions. The working environment is laid back, and friendly. They put trust in their employees to get their jobs done.

    Cons

High employee and management turnover. No yearly raises. No raises for taking on a more challenging, or different position.

    Advice to Management

Look into the jobs that people do, see if they have special skills, and can do things that the company usually hires out to contractors. Reward these employees with higher compensation than new hires.

    Pros

You will get a paycheck and the benefits are average. There are a handful of good, honest, hard working people there.

    Cons

The company is totally mismanaged and is operated in a manner that is irresponsible to the shareholders. Annual salary adjustments and performance reviews are basically non existent. The company is always looking for the next big thing that is going to make them successful and it always ends up being a failure. Promotions are based on who you know not what you know. On top of all this, the company's safety program is a joke, it looks good on paper that's about it.

    Advice to Management

Step down and allow someone who knows what they are doing run the show. You guys are not as smart as you think!

I worked at Casella Waste Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I made some good friends, had some good times, and shared some good laughs.

    Cons

Corporate management and regional management is very rude and disrespectful. Managers fail to provide any direction, guidance, or leadership. Any issues that arise involves numerous conference calls with your manager, their manager, their managers manager etc. etc. Which results in calls with a dozen people all talking over each other and the majority of them not knowing anything about what is going on. They don't empower people to do their job and make decisions on their own. However when things go wrong they are very quick to point the finger.

    Advice to Management

Show some respect for the people below you and maybe they will respect you in return.

    Pros

Decent benefits available. Some managers do care about the entry level employee and their input. CFO and CAO are the only reason that company functions as well as it's managed.

    Cons

People are put into leadership roles that do not belong there. I've seen multiple people in Supervisor positions that play favorites and are a cause of work place drama. This is witnessed in multiple departments around Home Office.

    Advice to Management

Please make sure the people you promote into Supervisor positions are qualified and have the skills needed for their roles.

    Pros

Consistent paychecks, just show up and they will love you.

    Cons

High turnover for laborers and many absences, poor management-not knowing how nor having the ability to drive Class A or B, scheduling changes often, below industry wages

    Advice to Management

Figure out how to staff, hire management with licenses to back up absences and know about jobs, learn routes, plan, learn efficiency, split routes evenly, pay base on productivity not on hours- you are rewarding people for subpar efforts.

    Pros

Clean work space, ability to decorate as desired within reason.

    Cons

Unclear growth expectation, workload, outdated software, high call volume expected, management misleading in expectations. Unclear dress code.

    Advice to Management

Please be more clear about job expectations and growth, and don't approve time off if it will be used against the employee even though it was approved.

    Pros

Good people at the hourly and lower mgmt levels.

    Cons

The company is broke. People are tired and demoralized. No faith in Sr. Mgmt. Trying too hard to be like the "big boys". Local, hometown feel has been destroyed by current mgmt. Noone listens to the type of equipment you need. Lots of money spent on putting lipstick on pigs, none spent on their people.

    Advice to Management

    sell to Waste Connections immediately.
