I worked at Cash America (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay and incentive program was great in 2006-2010...then they restructured the incentives plan to make it difficult to bonus. I enjoy the pawn business. BUT you have to have butt-kissing skills to progress in the old boys club.

    Cons

Georgia (falcon) acquisition was the destruction of 10,20,30 yr service employees. I believe the company new it was going to be selling 4 years ago.

I have been working at Cash America full-time

    Pros

Cash America Pawn is a fast paced loan / retail environment with great job stability. Offers above average vacation time.

    Cons

Constant policy changes leave shop staff in a confused state which makes for an unhealthy work environment. It would not seem that this company has been operating for 20+ years with the constant change in policies / procedures. Happens several times EVERY month , at least!

    Advice to Management

Stop making policy / procedural changes for all shops just because one shop in the company had success doing something different. Just because one shop did something well doesn't mean all shops need to change. This is a major cause of the mass confusion within the shops. Try beta testing good ideas with mentor shops / trusted management teams and get real feedback on the pros and cons before placing new mandates to all shops and implementing constant change. Change is good but excessive change in confusing and unhealthy to the shop environment!

    Pros

A great place to work at one time but with the recent merger has brought about many changes. The business model is the same however the culture has changed. No longer a great place to work.

    Cons

Too many upper management changes, pay, bonus and vacation structure has been drastically reduced and revamped. Required to work a lot of hours 45-50 hours.

    Advice to Management

Stabilize the company quickly you are losing too many good people.

I worked at Cash America full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Cleaner the EZ pawn good deals on items

    Cons

Some of the mangers were made managers just because they worked for the company for 15 years even though they have no idea how to be a manger. They let a customer threating myself another employee and our lives and let the customer come back in the building and still have them a loan. They didn't even recognize people who did the right thing and caught a assistant manger stealing a lot of jewelry

    Advice to Management

Get better management and appreciate the great workers who work 10 hour days sometimes

    Pros

There are some in the technology management staff who truly care about doing the right thing and are very competent and capable. Their pending merger with First Cash is an opportunity to improve things, but it's doubtful that will happen.

    Cons

Numerous rounds of layoffs have left the technology group so thin that if it were not for the herculean effort of a few key individuals the entire thing would fall in on itself. Key individuals with important domain knowledge in the technology and PMO areas have been dismissed without any real opportunity to transfer their knowledge.

    Advice to Management

Pray First Cash runs a better IT organization that you do.

    Pros

The discounts and the customer interactions! The smile on customers face when you give them the money they needed to pay that light bill!

    Cons

Management lacks in communication with the employee! Management does not really care if you are sick! If you call out the make you make it up during the week instead of using sick time by saying you're not allowed to have 3 days off in a week!

    Advice to Management

    Actually make yourself present.

I worked at Cash America full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

A few good things about this company is that you get the chance to meet all kinds of interesting people. Also you get employee discounts so when good things fall out you get the chance to buy them for a very cheap price. Ex: iPads, gold, speakers, etc

    Cons

Everything about this company is negative, it is a dead end job unless you are a district manager or have a higher position within the company. Most store managers did not finish college and they are always whining and complaining about the job..it's depressing.

    Advice to Management

Raise the hourly pay. A decent person can't survive with 9 an hour. And the commission does not help at all. The most you can get per month if you sell a lot is 200-250 a month. But that rarely happens. Not all people want to spend their money on pawnshops and you need to stop pushing employees earning a minimum wage to sell so much.
