I have been working at Castle Hill Inn and Resort full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Chefs are highly skilled, great food, great quality kitchen with many outlet options, into employee development and growth, promotes from within, many events to be involved in

    Cons

Long hours, work/life balance, Chefs are tough on us, kitchen space is small for the volume/quality we produce, not a fan of OT but can get frustrated when it is inevitable.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Castle Hill Inn and Resort part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Staff is generally very friendly and they put a lot of training and effort into making sure that the people they hire are comfortable doing their job.

    Cons

Easily can work 12+ hours in the summer time, occasionally without a break. They aren't very good at feeding their employees, you can bring your own food but you probably won't eat until the end of the shift.

    Advice to Management

Management can be almost bi-polar sometimes and they often take that out on their servers, they also have the philosophy of telling an employee small things they should be doing, like refilling a water glass, rather than just doing it themselves when servers are busy.

    Pros

The company really pays attention to detail, and are really focused on a knowledgeable staff. This really gives you the ability to do your job well. Great training program for bartenders and servers.. Pay is also great during the short summer season.

    Cons

Minus a few of the managers who lead by example, I have never worked at a place with such a negative attitude towards their staff. Management operates as if everyone is below them and they treat you like a child on a daily basis. It would be such a great place to work if management was more positive with their staff.

    Advice to Management

Be more like Juan Carlos, Brian, or Matt. These managers are well respected because of their knowledge and treatment of the staff. You don't need to talk down to your staff to get results.

Breakfast serving you get a flat wage, with potential tips.
Management is on top of things.
    People are generally nice.
    Great tips in the afternoon

    Cons

Sometimes there is nothing to do, how can you keep busy when everything is tied up?

    Pros

Beautiful setting and fabulous guests help employees take pride in property and build teamwork. A great place to work for a season, but don't make it a career.

    Cons

Head office views managers as disposable; try and find a woman in a leadership position and you will search long and hard to find one. It's really a private fiefdom for one family and its subordinates (including children). The line "it's just business" gets tossed around all the time.

    Advice to Management

Develop people , loyalty works both ways! Succession planning does not exist and, of course, should. Salaries are below market--or just at market. However, there are fewer managers on staff, so managers who are present must do the work of two or three people. Get a new CEO.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Castle Hill Inn and Resort full-time

    Pros

Some of the management staff are great and incredibly supportive, particularly Juan Carlos.

    Cons

Poorly run and managed overall, incredibly high staff turnover, and very, very clique-y.

Shift schedules are only released a day or so in advance.

Would not recommend working here, the pay is not worth dealing with the rude customers and poor management.

    Advice to Management

Allow for better staff training and integration. Show up on time, like the rest of the non-management employees.
