I worked at Castle Megastore part-time

    Pros

Fun and great work culture. Employees were always very helpful. Training on new products. Contests among employees and stores.

    Cons

Sales expectations - 3 items per customer and average dollar per sale. Meetings involving upper management that would single out employees and their mistakes in a negative and not always constructive way.

    Advice to Management

Understand that employees recognize regular customers that desire to be left alone and not checked upon every 5 min.

I have been working at Castle Megastore full-time

    Pros

There are lots of pros working for Castle. Great benefits, hands on training, very competitive pay rates and the people are just great! The corporate culture is relaxed while there is a major feeling of being a part of a team. They are also very supportive and have always time for you. I have grown a lot working here and see a lot of potential for more in the future. I love the dynamic and diverse environment. Ideas are considered and everyone's perspective is valuable.

    Cons

Though I believe that there is always room for improvement in anything. But thinking of things to improve here becomes so difficult because all you see around is mostly positive and the encouragement and support you receive from corporate and the company as a whole. The hours ( evening and weekends) can cut in your personal life as well as it is with every retail Job.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work !

I worked at Castle Megastore full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fun environment, great products, you get to empower your customers and make a real difference in an important part of their lives. The owners are wonderful people and very involved in the business. They take the time to get to know the staff at all levels.

    Cons

The company is a revolving door of turn-over due to poor hiring decisions and a gross lack of accountability that starts from the top down. Company policies and guidelines are rarely enforced past the hourly employee level. The company constantly tries to buy talent from the outside when there are several qualified, motivated and passionate employees who are ready to move up. While it is nice to have the owners so involved, they often make decisions about the business based on their emotional reactions rather than weighing the facts.

    Advice to Management

Work on fixing the company culture by building trust with your employees. Focus on employee development by consistently communicating and holding your teams accountable at all levels. Stop relying so heavily on outside hires who ultimately never work out. Hold you management team accountable to the policies and guidelines that you set and demand consistency in all stores.

    Pros

There are plenty of pros to working for Castle. The obvious reasons are that it's fun and exciting and different every day. We have a very diverse customer base and we have the opportunity to learn about all types of lifestyles. Wonderful, fun, open minded people work for this company so your coworkers are the best. I started as a supervisor 2 years ago was promoted to a lead supervisor about a year ago and am now an assistant manager in training so they do promote from within. The senior management team is supportive of all team members. They do a lot to take care of the employees.

    Cons

The hours are the biggest con. Weekends and evenings. Typical retail hours. Management does have long work days/nights. The sales side can be very stressful to some people. But if you are a naturally goal oriented and competitive person, it is more exciting than stressful.

I have been working at Castle Megastore (More than a year)

    Pros

I would like to start by saying how much I enjoy my job. I have worked here for about 2 years in total now, and it has been a place where I have been able to grow as a sales person and as a leader. I spend all day helping others have a great sex life, it's great! Whether I spend two hours with a customer showing and teaching them about all the products in the store, or if I can just help someone find the best option for what they came in for, I make sure everyone is leaving satisfied with their purchases.
While I did believe what I have read in a few reviews on here that Castle had problems hiring from within, I believe they heard those complaints and have turned things around. I started at this company as a part time sales associate and have worked my way all the way up to Assistant Store Manager. I enjoy the people I work with, they are a good crew who is willing to work together to make sure the store thrives.
On top of loving what I do from day to day, there is the added incentives every month of bonuses and oftentimes prizes that can be won monthly (and sometimes even more often).
If you want a job that you just cannot walk away from this is it. Corporate recognizes their employees and make it known how important you are. You make a difference in your customers lives, you are remembered and can be told often by the people you help how amazing you were. In this company you are not just a number, you are not just a robot. You mean something.

    Cons

So the cons; I know I speak highly of this company and my job, but there are always a few things we don't like as much. Mostly it's if you work here the hours can be problematic. We work shifts all over the board and many late nights, and when you are in management getting any real vacation time is quite difficult since you are so vital to the store. You also need to be open minded, the reason people shop with us is because we are knowledgeable, helpful and most importantly they don't feel judged. We want customers to feel safe, we will never judge them for what they buy and we will never tell a soul.
So if you can leave your judgement at home and work a swing shift, you can definitely find a career with Castle.

    Advice to Management

I agree with a prior stated comment, I would love for corporate headquarters to be located in or near Washington. I would love to work my way up to the corporate office, but I just cannot see myself living in Arizona.

I have been working at Castle Megastore full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Ive been working for Castle Megastore for almost two years and because of my strong work ethic and positive influence to the company I was promoted from Supervisor to Assistant Manager to my current role as Store Manager. First, the biggest plus is the product. I've been working retail management and sales most of my life and have had mall jobs that would exhaust me because I lacked passion for what I was selling. At Castle, I feel as though I am selling product that encourages love, self-realization/expression, and intimacy between couples. This gives me the greatest sense of purpose to my day to day grind and it fuels me to work harder. To reach more singles, more couples, and inspire a sex-positive culture to my community.

If you can maintain optimistic drive with the company they WILL notice and promote from within.

My immediate supervisor does not micromanage me. This is such a PRO. My leadership and passion produces gainful results and the trust between us is pretty clear. If I need help I ask for it. If my stores productivity is on a decline we have a professional conversation about it that finds solutions. This concept seems almost too simple but I have worked for many retail establishments where SMs and DMs have a disconnect in their abilities to communicate parading their egos. The DM for Castle is top-notch and experienced, compassionate and always available.

    Cons

Given the nature of the product and commitment to boutique-like customer service you have to have a skillset that encourages strangers/customers to want to open up to you about their wants and needs and be able to teach/inspire this in your staff as well. This is very difficult to some people. Being able to effectively coach and train your staff about sexual wellness AND how to hit their goals is not for everyone.

    Advice to Management

Move headquarters to Washington State please :)

I worked at Castle Megastore full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The company really does train their managers well. It's also fun to work with such a wide customer base. They have great product selection and prices in comparison to their competition.

    Cons

Working around so much pornography can be toxic to a female's self esteem and overall intimatcy in your personal life. This is something to consider before choosing castle as a career. They also tend to hire from the outside before promoting within. With their limited store locations, management positions open up very solemnly- and when they do, they are more likely to bring someone else in before considering promoting one of their shift supervisors.

    Advice to Management

Have faith in your employees. Your turn over when decrease immensely if they felt valued and knew they could potentially have their own store one day.
