I have been working at Castle Metals full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits and flexible schedule, great co workers for the most part. Good clean environment and no one riding your back.

    Cons

Unsecure future, recent cutbacks on warehouse workers due to the branch not paying there vendors, forcing warehouse workers to use PTO time they worked very hard to accumulate which has led to very low morale on the floor due to branch level management decisions.

    Advice to Management

Take care of the people making things happen and go back to the way things were.

    Pros

Mostly a great group of individuals that really cared about the organization and wanted to make it work. Some great peers to work with who would mostly bend over backwards to help you succeed.

    Cons

Dropped the ball on some core aerospace areas leaving valued customers adrift and ultimately losing the company a great deal business.

I worked at Castle Metals full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good co-workers who make strong efforts to contribute to the company's overall success. Solid teamwork atmosphere. Compensation and benefits average.

    Cons

Constantly changing leaders and leadership philosophies result in an ever-changing culture and work environment which can feel chaotic to front-line employees and mid-level managers. Hard to know how to meet expectations when the expectations are in a continual state of flux.

    Advice to Management

Senior leadership's failure to invest in company infrastructure years ago partly responsible for company's current difficulties. While competitors were investing in improved warehouse technology and operating systems, Castle did nothing. The implementation of Oracle was too little, too late. The Board has consistently failed to provide solid direction and strong leadership.
Continue to invest in infrastructure for the long-term, to the extent possible given current financial constraints. Stockholders should hold the Board accountable for its ongoing failure to perform -- company leadership has continued to change while the Board make-up has been fairly stable.

I worked at Castle Metals full-time

    Pros

Training, experience gained are, or were good developmental. Adequate benefits and pay with a fair economy and good team members to work with.

    Cons

The extensive management turnover led to mass confusion on goals and expectations. Culture seemed to evolve into vicious and nasty.

    Advice to Management

Try to settle employee fears and concerns by and through simple communications. Terrible to go to work everyday afraid of what may happen.

I worked at Castle Metals full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good people in the trenches, getting it done on a daily basis. Benefits are competitive. Promotes from within. Longtime employees

    Cons

Don't want to "get in the weeds" of processing or shipping steel. Hired a third party transportation provider that doesn't want to drive let alone deliver material.

    Advice to Management

Go back to the basics and treat your employees with some respect.

    Cons

    Pros

Was a very good place to work initially. Hours were good and management would work with you. I had a lot of PTO (about) 6 weeks.

    Cons

When the company had warehouses built overseas everything went downhill from there at the Paramount location.

    Advice to Management

Have a plan that will move the company in the right direction. Getting rid of good experienced employees is a short term fix.
