I have been working at Catalyst Biosciences as a contractor (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Our new sub-Q strategy is very exciting! Catalyst's science was always top notch. With our current passionate Executive Team, we are very enthusiastic about where this innovative approach to hemophilia dosing will take us.

    Cons

We are still adjusting to our smaller size after the elimination of the Research organization at the end of 2016.

    Advice to Management

Continue with the focus on monthly all hands meetings, offsites, team building and culture-enhancing activities. The past year has been the best yet! It feels less hierarchical and like we're all in this together. The Executive Team's openness and willingness to share across the organization is outstanding!

I have been working at Catalyst Biosciences full-time

    Pros

    Really good pre-clinical data
Multiple differentiated clinical assets with near term data readouts
Aligned strategy with great opportunity if clinical data is positive

    Cons

As with all biotechs, clinical data is no guarantee and may not replicate pre-clinical data

    Advice to Management

    Deliver on clinical data!

I worked at Catalyst Biosciences as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

I was there for six months as a contractor and I'd have to say I loved the environment--great location, friendly people, exciting times overall.

    Cons

I guess there was some tension from the top down and the full time employees would complain about feeling the heat from the execs when the execs never made it down to the labs to really know what was going on.

    Advice to Management

    Partner with the underlings

    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Catalyst Biosciences full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Cutting edge biotechnology... what they are doing is great!
    - Nice nice employees

    Cons

    - CEO is a menace to work for. He has NO people skills, nor did he care about his employees. He had 5 EAs in 3 years. Why is that? He took home a hefty salary to walk around with a chip on his shoulder.
    - Not a very collaborative environment. Cubicles and quiet. I was there for 9 months and cannot remember ONE of my colleague's names.
    - POLITICS.

    Advice to Management

Rethink your people strategy. If you want the best for your company, treat the employees like you care.

    Pros

Great group of people, cutting edge science.

    Cons

Small startup company which depends on large pharm partnerships to get products to market

    Advice to Management

    More open communication to employees

I worked at Catalyst Biosciences full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Using proteases as therapeutics is a great idea, some good people still work there.

    Cons

No partnerships in several years, low on funds, two recent layoffs, down to ~16 people.
Steady exodus of good talent - frustrated with poor management and no publications or career advancement.

    Advice to Management

Lose paranoia about publications, give scientists and RA's their due - need fresh blood at C-level...
