    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

Good pay, good benefits, not really anything else just had to have five words

    Cons

Most coworkers are good, however the ones that are bad are the worst people I have ever met in my life, good old boys club mentality, management sides with senior employees even when they're in the wrong legally, safety is a joke and only used to punish workers, they aren't concerned about safety when they want something done

    Advice to Management

Get serious about safety, start actually following employment laws, listen to your employees instead of wasting money to have people come in from some Nordic country to tell you the same exact thing

I worked at Catalyst Paper full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

its a job if you dont have one.

The 5 star reviewer must be planted from the company, no real person could say such a thing about this company. I heard similar hype during the interview process.

    Cons

1 very dirty everywhere, no money for housekeeping
2 wage rollbacks in 2012 amounted to 10% wage and 8% health/pension (lowest paid union trades in BC)
3 ban on OT, company working on goal of less that 6% OT
4 dying industry, feels like the catalyst is milking every dollar out before the paper machines shut down
5 catalyst is very aggressive trying to keep labour cost down while spending a fortune on equipment, materials, and consultants
6 very negative work environment, company simply does not respect workers
7 Catalyst stock just keeps going down from over 6 a year ago to 2 now

    Advice to Management

The union workers are not the enemy

"Great place to work if you've only got a few years left to work and want to retire on Van Isle."

    Pros

You get to live on Vancouver Island and work in a company full of great people to work with. The most cooperative atmosphere I've ever worked in, very few ladder climbers and a stable, low-turnover workforce.

    Cons

The company is in a sunset industry and has not invested the necessary capital to make their mills competitive. As a result they are continuous shutting down non-competitive equipment. This leads to the constant fear that there is another downsizing coming around the corner so you cannot make any long term life plans, are afraid to buy a house in town and always have one eye on the classified ads. This is not a concern if you're financially set and only a few years away from retirement, but for younger folks trying to make a life it is not viable.

    Advice to Management

Make the cuts hard and fast then invest in the remaining assets to make them competitive.

    Pros

pay is union negotiated and good if you can get work

    Cons

Union breaking seems to be the plan. Company pits it's mills and unions against each other in an effort to break contract pattern. No jobs, no future,

    Advice to Management

Respect the people who make your product. Note, we do not control the CDN vs US $ .
